View Full Version : So how long will it take to recover from this experiment

We all know he is not going anywhere after this year, and maybe even next year. We will have a roster full of Leach players and will have further dug ourselves a deeper hole to get out of. I also wonder if and when we do switch that we wont have a qb on the roster that can be a dual threat guy.

Also, watching this OM offense makes me sick

We hire the right coach then a year or 2. Mullen took crooms roster and had us bowling in year 2.

It?s kind of like the womens basketball team. It?s pretty much done and its not coming back anytime soon.

With the advent of NIL and all of that BS....I just hope it recovers period. I'm concerned.

Not only bowling, but looking really good...with Chris Relf, no less. Not only that, but in year one he had a team with pulse with Tyson Lee at QB and close to zero real SEC talent at WR. Dan started a ****ing FB every game in 09, lol. A FULLBACK!

Good coaches mold their schemes to their players, not the other way around. Shit, we saw a ton of snaps under center with plenty of west-coast wrinkles Dak's senior year. Dan wasn't perfect (far from it), but if we're comparing "doing more with the cards you're dealt", this isn't close.

Hire the right coach...which we won't, but lets say we did, it will take season two before we start winning, by season three we win more games but likely lose the coach to another SEC program or equivalent that's desperate to get out of their own situation. Everyone wants a good coach, but there are way too many D1 programs and not many coaches can win in the SEC. Only the strong survive.

Maybe we can still end up with Joe Judge, lol.

He will be available by end of year if not before.

But you offer the best coach out there not named Saban, Dabo, or Smart $10 million. Once they turn that down, you petition the AAC or Big 12 for admittance.

It could take a few years. But I'm willing to be patient if we can find the right guy. I've never been so happy with a 5 win season as I was after Mullen's first year. When you know, you know. Sam Pittman is the right guy at Arkansas.

JoMo and Leach aren't the right guys. It's obvious. The funny thing about Leach is he could be the right guy if he would adjust. But he won't, so he's not.

Of course if we were to hire Jeff Lebby or Hugh Freeze, the turnaround would be pretty quick. we would have to take away Steve Robertson's credentials.

Steve could go cheer for Perk, in that case, lol.

It'll take us years to recover. Not only will the roster be devoid of talent, it will be horribly imbalanced. It will basically be useless to almost any coach who takes the job. It'll be hard to adjust for the available talent because of the imbalance. Mullen made his offense work because for all of Croom's faults, he at least left a reasonably balanced roster, even if it was a little bit short on talent in a couple of key areas and short on numbers at WR.

I keep saying it, but this was all so predictable and unnecessary. If Leach were any good, someone else in the SEC would've hired him in the last 20 years. The fact no one even seriously kicked the tires on him should've told everyone what serious programs thought about him. But we were the ones stupid enough to actually hire him.

Well, it will obviously depend on how long this experiment goes for. If we read the tealeaves and kick the tires, it might not sting as much you'd think. As of now, we've got some really good young RBs, a bunch of OL that were originally recruited for run-blocking, and still some good defensive talent. If we were to refocus on a more balanced pass/run scheme, there are always plenty of viable QB's out there to go get, not to mention we typically do well recruiting defensive players. A silver lining of all of this could be Mike recruiting/developing some decent WR talent for the next guy.

Anyone, any good will get hired away as soon as his stock rises, even if he doesn't necessarily want to leave. The punk media would make such a deal out of it they'll will his ass away. "Because if he can win at Mississippi State he could win big there blah blah blah." We are screwed.

I guess our best case scenario is find a mike gundy type guy. Kind of a niche guy that is a state guy.

Mullen stayed 9 years. If the next winner stays 9 years I'm good with that.

True, but imagine what Dan could've accomplished had he not been job shoppin' every winter. I'm grateful for what Dan did for us, and would gladly accept it again (especially after these last few years), but he still under achieved.

Yup and the sorry ass media became unbearable toward the end with all the "why does he stay here" antics. Besides, no coach will be here 9 years again.

We better hope Leach works because if he doesn't that's two well known offensive gurus that couldn't make it work here. Good luck hiring someone after that. Better hope Judge is available by then.

More than that MSU is going to have to make more of a commitment to football and football recruiting no matter who the coach is. That's on the boosters moreso than anyone else. The NIL makes it almost impossible to cheat nowadays. So the "well we might get caught" excuse doesn't hold water anymore.
