Nick Fitzgerald and Richmond Hill (9-1, 6-1) will host #10 Thomas County Central (8-2, 4-1) in a surprise first round match-up. TCC is a perennial top team in Region 1-AAAAA, but was upset in their season finale by Harris County. TCC lost a 3-way tie breaker and dropped to the 3rd seed, and now have to travel 6 hours by school bus to Richmond Hill. That is a big advantage for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will have to find a way to stop 3-Star Clemson commit Adam Choice. Choice is a 5'9", 195 lb QB who runs a 4.39. He is a beast. Friday night he rushed for 258 yards before dislocating his shoulder and leaving the game at the end of the 3rd qrt. He has 5,091 yards rushing in his career, besting his cousin - former GA Tech RB Joe Burns - by 85 yards for the school record. He has 1,517 yards rushing on the season. TCC runs the veer. Yes, the veer. Their lead running back, Deondre Cooksey has 1,138 rushing yards. So for those who believe in RTGDFB, this is the team for you.

Good news for Richmond Hill is that Choice is listed as questionable as of Thursday afternoon. If Choice can't play or is not up to speed, that is one less weapon for TCC. However, even with Choice, it is a winnable game. TCC's D has not been stellar, and they have had 4 games decided by a touchdown or less.

As for Nick - he finished the regular season with 1,183 yards, 23 TDs, 8.45 ypc, 118.3 ypg on the ground. He capped it with 24-56 for 504 yards, 9 TD's, 2 INTs and a 100 QBR. Not bad for a kid who led the region in receiving last year....

Hopefully, I'll have another post covering Nick next week. I am also looking at doing a weekly recap on Elijah's basketball season, but round ball is just getting started and the coverage in the Marietta paper is too preoccupied with football to give much info.

A lot of times I think the whole guy is underrated thing is blowing smoke, but it really does seem like Fitzgerald is. I could see him being a sort of Julian Edelman everywhere type guy for us.

I get more and more fired up about that guy every time I read your reports. And honestly it could all work out great, Staley could star on the hardwood while Fitzgerald is our next Collin Klein.

We could definitely do a lot with him. WR/wildcat guy with Staley at QB sounds great, too.

I've watched a lot of GA HS football, and I think both these guys have the goods. They are raw, and unseasoned but are both tremendous ATHLETES - something we always seem a little short on. Having seen Nick play, and from everyone I have talked to in coastal GA, they all say the same thing - Nick has "IT" and is the type kid that wants to lead and the team just gravitates to him. Everyone also says we are getting a big steal. No one at all is worried about his arm, or reads, or lack of passing stats. The words "perfect fit for Dan Mullen's system" come up in every conversation.

Richmond Hill moves on to a second round matchup with Warner Robbins.

Nice. He doesn't need to get too popular though, don't want Georgia or Florida coming after him.

Warner Robbins is always near the top in Georgia, be tough to get by them. At the very least they usually have a few D1 guys.

I've followed his twitter all fall and Nick appears all in. Talked about looking forward to coming to State. Several times while he was watching a State game on TV he would criticize the play calling and the coaching decisions. So he's already meshed with the State fanbase. We say the same thing.

That team doesn't pass very much.
