I swear, I am trying to watch the Tokyo olympic swimming events and the annoying whistling during the races gives me flash backs. I have to give it the "Vandy treatment" and turn the volume on the TV down. Anybody else bothered by the annoying whistling?

Absolutely, same thoughts and as annoying! It?s bad enough during a ballgame. But I cannot imagine, in an enclosed arena, where the sounds reverberates off every surface. It must be living h _ l l ! Many moons ago, I spent a lot of time in an enclosed area with an Olympic sized pool. It was like being in an echo chamber. Like The Whistler, this is obviously someone devoid of consideration for others.

No but he whistling heaven at Swim meets. Thats how coaches communicate with swimmers.

That?s what I initially thought, too, until I noticed some things. There is not much of a pattern most of the time, they continue whistling well after the event is over, and even when there are no swimmers coming on deck for the next event. Either they are a pacesetter with ADHD, or they fall squarely in the jerk column.

I should have made it clearer you are also right, in there are multiple people whistling cadence at times. There is just one in particular that I do not believe has any purpose regarding the competitors.

I wasted 9 years of my youth on a Swim Team.** Nothing Like traveling the back roads of Mississippi in the back of a Station Wagon with 10 other kids back in the 60's and 70s/

Did anyone watch Finke come back and win the 800? That was unbelievable. He came out of nowhere the last 50 and just passed everyone.

yes, that was impressive. On the last lap, that probably the fastest 50 meters he swam in his life.
