Internet sources say this has been in the works for over a year. Leach was hired around 18 months ago.

Leach was an odd fit for the SEC on paper, but if Cohen knew that we were going to start playing Oklahoma and Texas every year, two teams consistently vulnerable to the Air Raid, it makes more sense. And Leach's recruiting contacts in Texas are going to be even more fruitful if those schools are in the West and we're playing them a lot. And Texas high school football runs this offense, and suddenly, we're the only team in Texas's conference running it.

Either Cohen knew something was brewing, or got extremely lucky. Leach was already a great hire IMO but changing out yearly games with Alabama and Auburn for yearly games with Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas makes it even better.

You might be on to something. Cohen is pretty sharp.
