I predict they do beat NC State twice, but don't have the pitching left to beat us twice.

They'll go Rocker/Leiter against NC St to win and then Rocker Leiter Game 2 and 3 in the Finals.

They might, but it's a bad idea from a short-term perspective (since neither would be likely to be on top of their game on such short rest) and from a long-term perspective (as getting a top 2 draft pick injured on dangerously short rest would hurt the program in recruits' eyes).

But, yes, I guess they could try it.

Even pitching Games 2 and 3 they would be going on half of their normal rest after pitching on shorter than normal rest against NC State.

I could see Leiter throwing on short rest if need be. His dad made 70 million playing and is probably worth well over 100 million now. Jack could make much more than that long term but having a dad worth 9 figures means you can afford to take a little more risk. Whether he would be as effective on short rest is a valid point.

I REALLY want Vandy gone because if we don't win a NC I don't want it to be because we lost to a team that is ONLY a byproduct of an NCAA loophole and who cheapens the game. I can much more easily live with losing to a team that plays pretty much by the rules we do (and I know there are other issues like state lotteries but nothing as egregious as Vandy).

Seems a bit unfair for Virginia/Texas to have to play back to back days while the other side gets a day off in between...but oh well, sucks for them

Someone's been paying attention. Yes they do and they have some good arms too those 2 reasons I don't think Vandy can beat them twice. Let's hope it goes 2 though.

Yep, and Stanford's wasn't too far behind so it was disappointing that they only put up 5 runs on Vandy tonight with Vandy pitching some of their weaker pitchers. Too bad they couldn't have saved some of those 14 runs they scored against Arizona for tonight.

Tonight was good for us because Stanford was done & completely out of pitching. They've would've been crushed by NC State's lineup.

Tonight helped ensure that we'll face a tired team should we make it to the finals.

Also important to note is that I think Vandy is actually a better matchup for our team than NC State. Vandy hitters led the SEC in strikeouts & our pitchers led the SEC in strikeouts. Advantage us.

Conversely, NC State is basically Notre Dame 2.0. They were towards the bottom of the ACC in strikeouts by their hitters with many good hitters throughout their lineup & scrappy, but not great pitching.

I like our pitching vs strikeout teams

I think they'll beat them twice as well but the second part of your statement is off a bit. Their game 3 folks beat us in Nashville and both Rocker and Leiter would get starts against us, just not in game 1. We struggled mightily with McElwain.

My negative Nancy outlook is we **** around and lose Friday with Harding against Ty Madden and have to throw Bednar on Sat.

We would then have to beat Vandy or NCST with MacLeod, Harding (on 3 rest) and Bednar (on 3 rest).

My God it makes so much sense to go Bednar Friday.

Bednar on two days shortened rest is not a sure win. You can argue that Harding on Friday is actually the safer option. He has been more consistent in the postseason, and arguably our best pitcher other than Sims since the Bama series.

I'm not scared of Vandy. We should've taken a series from them earlier this year at their place with them pitching Rocker and Leiter. If we have to face them, both of those guys will be working on short rest.

I'm fine with whoever we play. Just take it one game at a time and stay locked in.

In 2013, we got screwed by not having Graveman available until game 3 and of course we never got there. Hopefully we can win Friday and the other side can get off their rotation like we did in 2013.

You need Harding to win this whole thing, especially now we McCleod turning into Coach BP. Where do you think his confidence in his ability goes if you don?t at least give him a shot?

I feel much better about Bednar on 5 days rest vs. Texas? or NC State?s 4 or 5 Saturday. That?s our 1 vs. their 4 or 5 probably. Or our 3 or 4 vs. their 4 or 5.
