View Full Version : Am I the last one to learn Roy Oswalt opened up a restaurant in the old Veranda?

I knew Taste was opening there, didn’t know Oswald was involved.

He had a steakhouse in weir for few years a while back…think it was called home plate or something.

The only info I can really find about it is their Instagram page, but from that I can tell it's going to be fine dining.

If you put the name, aesthetics, and menu of that place in front of me (especially the name) I would think I was in a big city's hipster district. I can't wait to have some big city food as small town prices next time I visit for a game.

So is it not the guy that had had some issues on the coast opening up there anymore? Did that fall through?

Taste is owned and operated primarily by Craig Fant - long time chef and restaurateur who now lives in Starkville. I had no idea Oswalt was involved but apparently has some part in it.

I didn't know it was Oswalt's restaurant either until a few days ago. Here's a link to the food they'll offer. Pretty good bourbon list.

Beer selection is just meh. Menu looks good but is expensive. We will try it next trip to Starkville but a $50 ribeye better be impressive.

Fine dinning is usually not associated with beer drinking.

Menu looks good, but they need more seafood dishes, particularly shrimp and oysters. Glad to see redfish on a menu, too.

Good beers pair with foods just like wines. Most beer drinkers aren’t learned or adventurous enough to know this.

All it know is if Polk had recruited him out out high school we probably would have won a national championship in 97 or 98 or both.
