I'm interested to see where some of you old time cats fit them in MSU baseball lore. Obviously not the best we've ever had but they have left their mark no doubt. So good for so long and 3 trips to Omaha.

TA is for sure on the All decade team and I would have a hard time leaving him off of an all time team at least as a utility. RJ is an all decade teamer but he has never had that one season where he went off he was just so consistent throughout his career. Forgot they both started as true freshmen.

TA has 3 CWS appearances as a starter and an SEC POY on his resume, that is stout

Also impressive TA played 2 different positions

Looking at the roster, I just noticed that both are juniors. They'll probably get drafted by MLB but sure would be sweet if these two decided to return for their senior years in '22. I know LSU had several players that returned a few seasons back for one more chance of college ball so it's not unheard of.

Tanner Allen has got to be top 10 all time. If we win it all and he has a good series have to put him at the top or very close. Rowdey got to be top 25.

They haven't been linked together over their career as a duo the way say Clark and Palmeiro were, but in hindsight, they played key roles on three different Omaha teams and never missed Omaha while they were here other than the 2020 cancellation. Not sure how likely it is to have another two players whose careers overlap like that.

Also, when rating Rowdey, you have to take into account that he was basically a different player after SEC play in his sophomore and senior years. Not sure what his average was going into SEC play his sophomore year, but he brought his average up 100 points after starting SEC play this year. Guessing it was probably that much or more his sophomore year. So I feel like ".300 hitter", while accurate, undersells him as he was better when it matters.

Agree with that. If we win it all, Rowdey moves up a good bit too.

I'm sure TA will be gone, but do y'all think there's any way Rowdey gets drafted late enough to give us another year?

TA is an all time player now. Winning the POY and hitting 30 pts better than the SEC and hitting better against the best opponents is amazing.

Rowdy is not a better OF than guys like Jody Hurst but Rowdy is more clutch.

I can say 100% that Allen and Jordan would be starters in 1989 and sat down Cohen and Echols, especially Cohen who sucked that year. They would have started in 1990. They would have started in 2013 too with TA at 1B. They would have started in 2016. We don’t lose to Arizona with TA taking all of Humphries ABs and playing a better OF.

When it comes to gorilla ball times, it’s hard to judge anything because the stats became stupid but of course TA is starter then too.

I think TA is a top 5 player as it stands now. Winning us our first championship could shoot him up to one of the top. His resume is better than just about anyone we've ever had.

-SEC POY
-Never ended a season anywhere but Omaha
-4 year starter
-2 different positions
-Hit for Avg, power, and had the clutch gene. Had some wheels on him too. TA's just a ball player man.

Rowdey is top 20 in my book for several of the same accomplishments above. I consider myself lucky to have been able to watch these two represent the M over S

TA's speed and base running is undervalued too - dude is fast.

I'd really put TA high on the list - after Will and Raffy; probably somewhere in top 5 with Jake and Rooker.

Both are great bulldogs. But Allen is another level with his baseball smarts. Dude is a flat out player. I said in another thread that he is way more baseball savvy than even mangum was.

Both of them seem to step up at just the right time. I did feel like over the weekend that Allen didn’t get the same recognition and the cheers weren’t quite as loud for him as for rowdey for whatever reason. Again both great bulldogs.

Honestly, it probably has more to do with how catchy the Rowdy chant is.

Y'all are also forgetting that TA has been a 1st team ALL SEC selection at two different positions. I don't know how many players in league history that have done that, much less MSU history.

Only 1 player. Tanner Allen.

That's exactly the reason. TA has the better chance of the longer stint in pro ball.

Great players with cool names. Hopefully their gear sells well in MLB.

If you toss out his career pre-April at bats, Rowdey is prob hitting about .900; would like to see that stat honestly; and his career regional stats have to be really good as well.

Tanner Allen put this team on his back this year; And his homer at the Florida State regional as a freshman was huge.
