Tim Elko just went down for Ole Miss rounding first. Looked horrible.

Damn. I saw the play. Just terrible luck.

I take it he's a huge loss for them, right?

He's the leader of their team on and off the field. He's a huge loss

I don't know but in general if you can't bear weight on something it's bad.

Would be like us losing Brent Rooker in 2017.

He?s their best player and clean up hitter. Prob a 1st to 2nd round pick in the draft.

This is like if our 2013 team lost Renfroe for the season for them.

I wouldn't look for him to go in the top 10 rounds. Not a very good player.

What people don't realize is that many Seniors/guys that are in their 4th year of college baseball due to COVID, have figured out the game. They're smarter, more experienced, more mature, & more fine tuned than many of the younger guys they are facing. Thus they hit for averages & do things that are beyond their actual talent level. It doesn't translate to the next level

Elko is better than Macnamee but kind of a similar situation

Good comment on this.

I wonder why in all the grad transferring during COVID we only went after tiny Scotty Dubrule. We should have been looking for...

I know Dubrule hasn't been great so far - but he was the active NCAA hits leader. You don't turn that down. .426 in the ASun Conference ought to at least translate to .280 in the SEC.

Elko is more like Rooker than he is like Mac. He would've been drafted in the Top 10 rounds, not so sure now. He's a huge loss for them. Losing his bat in their lineup is a big blow for a team that, as of now, doesn't have a very reliable bullpen outside of just a couple of arms.

Not saying turn down Dubrule. I'm saying that the 5-Round Draft left behind many good players. An 13th round senior 3B is basically Gavin Collins. A 17th rounder is Mitch Moreland. A 23rd rounder is Brett Pirtle. A 6th rounder is Pete Young.

Yeah, it's not just finding players you want, the particular players also needed to jump into the transfer portal.

Elko is a good player. Prob an all sec guy.l this year.

He is not in the same league as Rooker and would not sniff a triple crown. Rooker had a generational type year in 2017. Like .410 with 23 HR. Hell he hit .350 with 10 HR in 2016.

No, you're right. Mac is the better comparison, as Gun pointed out.

They're both white. That's where the similarities end.

We've never really had a player that profiles like him as far as MLB goes. But the fact of the matter is Elko is a good leader for them and an impact bat in their lineup.

Parrish is reporting that Elko is definitely out for 2 weeks but may put off surgery and try to return as a DH later this season. Doesn’t sound like something someone with draft prospects would do

He has a torn ACL. What is gonna do, hit the ball and crawl to the bag?

You have to twist joints hitting the ball as well- he really wont do too well. He should go ahead and have the surgery

Yeah if he wants any kind of future in the game he needs to get it done now.

He can throw a brace on and hit. Seen it before. Can't tear it worse. It's just whether he can do it.

Your power comes from your legs or lower half. I imagine that it is going to be greatly compromised with this injury if he continues to play through it.

But again, will he try it? I just can't see it. Not a guy with his future. He'll decide to have surgery and start rehab.

A guy risking his future professional career to get back on the field for dear Ole Miss sounds like something an OM writer would tell the flock with no factual basis.

He?s probably making better money now than he will be in the MLB...
