Rea is kinda fragile- and was hurt early in the year. That caused him to be a little behind at the plate. Now that he has been getting steady AB's, his bat is really coming around.

That's a called play on a first and third. Ammirati calls in one of 3-5 plays from the catcher's box prior to the batter(and sometimes prior to each pitch if you get an idea what they are doing). One play is a pumpfake to 2b and hold or throw to 3b, one play is a gunner back to the pitcher, the 3rd is what we saw there. 2b works as a cutoff man. 3b calls "4-4-4" if the runner on 3b breaks on the catcher's throw and Pirtle cuts it and comes home. If nothing is said, Pirtle lets it go thru, Frasier makes the tag just like a normal straight steal. Bottom line, that shit was Frasier's fault 100%.

Where it gets even more complicated is first and thirds with 2 outs. Seriously, it is the most complicated play in baseball from a team perspective at the higher levels. You can tell how good a coach is by ONLY looking at how his team handles first and thirds.


What I just gave you were Ron Polk's calls. #1, 2, and 3. I could tell you how the catcher calls them in -- but I'd be giving away Raffo and Shoop's(current) system as well. It's a call giving which "touch" it is -- then it's either first touch, last touch, or first touch "indicator"(meaning whatever comes directly after you return to the first touch) from the catcher.

Porter has hit the ball hard to CF and then K'd. He has had very few AB's against lefties this year. We need to keep his ass in the line-up- we are a better team when he plays

Ross's dad and uncle both pitched in the bigs. I imagine teams looked at him for that reason alone.

Our soph and junior classes are some of my favorite ever at MSU. Both highly ranked classes -- with guys that came in with NO guarantees of success in a program that hadn't had the dumpster fire extinguished yet. Neither had seen us return to decency in any capacity whatsoever. Cohen and Butch had everything in the world working against them -- and every reason to fail in those classes -- and they somehow managed to persevere and come thru with what we see here.

People don't realize that this team only has one class on campus that signed AFTER we'd actually turned it around with a winning season...

This Auburn team swings it pretty well. Their SOS leaves them without much to show for it statistically -- and they aren't all that talented -- but their approach at the plate is generally very good IMO
