He was a notorious hound dog. He was even known to go carousing the bars the night before a fight. He was reckless.

He could have contracted it that way, but self admitted to unprotected sex with scores of strange in his pro career. Like rock star numbers. He later battled addictions to hard drugs and prescription meds for years after his career ended. His liver was eaten up by immunodeficiency drugs. He actually tested HIV negative many times years after diagnosis.

that's what I was thinking while watching. I had also forgotten how much of an articulate and humble gentleman he was. Sux he couldn't live out his life.

He improved his skill level and would have been dangerous for anyone to get in the ring with, but was outclassed badly when he faced Lennox Lewis in 1995. Of course Lewis pretty much ushered in the super heavyweight division in non Olympic boxing.
