Another disaster hire by our ex Baseball coach AD. If we get in it will be one and done. She must have read JoMo's book, "How to be your Players Buddy and Destroy the Program in Two Years or Less", still available on Amazon as this was definately Mickey Mouse again and not Dr. Seus. One and done and a majority of the team in the transfer portal asap.

Hah, ain't that the truth. I can't believe we are in. The field must really be bad this year.

Well we get another banner this year or year digit change on existing banner for making tourney.

Boy NotreDame has fallen. Several of those teams out should be in over us. We have been drummed by a few of them and avoided Olemiss drumming by missing game, thank God.

Team definitely has the talent to make an NCAA Tourney run but...major adjustments (coaching staff and players) needed regarding approach to the game.

Suggest go with an all out, extended press...(not a token press). Note...Ole Miss has started pressing hard, picking up in fullcourt, 3 quarter, halfcourt press, ect. Coach Yo getting aggressive, doing the things she needs to do. Been working for them recently. Coach McCray-Penson going away from a strong press (team strength previous seasons) has hurt Miss. State a lot this season. SEC teams were glad to see Danberry gone, Coach Schaefer and staff gone, then Miss. State going away from an aggressive all out press under basically a new staff and system. Team forced over 20 turnovers per game last season (was rated high nationally in forced turnovers per game). Scored a lot off of these forced turnovers as well.
Guards (can still press hard with this group...(1-2-1-1 fullcourt press and trapping fullcourt press, 2-2-1 to 3/4 to 1/2 press, Villinova1-2-2..3/4, and zone press, inbounds traps, others, various hybrids, ect. Also, can make up your own stuff, combinations, ect)...
Myah Taylor
Aliyah Matharu
Madison Hayes
JaMya Mingo-Young
Xaria Wiggins
Caterrion Thompson
Knisha Godfrey
Wings
Post players

On offense...Spread floor (enough spacing) with Myah Taylor as the primary ball handler, distributor. Heavy emphasis on taking care of the basketball.

Additional notes
Several of the other SEC teams appear starting to incorporate aspects of the way Miss.State played under Coach Schaefer into their systems..now beating them at their own game. SEC teams have definitely gotten MUCH better recently (Note...Arkansas beat Uconn earlier this season), especially with transfer portal helping. This, while Miss. State has been going in the opposite direction under new system. Though, Coach McCray Penson's system, a work in progress..can still prevail in the long run...given time, adjustments, personel adjustments, other adjustments, more seasoning, tweaks, ect.. Can't count her out. Possibly zone when needed as well, especially with the defensive issues and makeup of this team. Miss. State has struggled a lot themselves against variius zones. Other teams do as well . Again, go zone when/if needed.Possibly a 2-3 zone. Look up Syracuse 2-3 zone. Me. sttill supporting this team, coaching staff...can eventually turn this thing around.

What u been drinking in the Delta today. Talent without coaching will NOT work. Coach needs to STOP trying to be their buddy and start pushing them.

As someone said last week in another post...Coach best be worried about what BLM stands for from a head coach angle being....Basketball Losses Matter!!

Sorry but this team has no chance. Playing a press would be disaster. Layup after layup. You have to hustle to press. We give up layups in the half court now. We'd get beat by 50.

At this point in the season Ole Miss deserves it more than we do.

Cohen HAS to be fired. We need a real AD, not an ex baseball coach trying to be one.

Coaching staff could try it. Also, watch videos of them pressuring the ball in last season's games. Mostly the same guards (minus Danberry, Hemingway). No one beat them by 50, they were the ones mostly doing the blow outs. Beat Arkansas by nearly 40 pts last season. Beat Ole Miss by 41 pts and 25 pts. Beat Florida by 36 pts. Beat LSU by 30 pts. Beat Kentucky by 18 in the SEC Tourney. Beat Vanderbilt by 16 pts. Beat Georgia by double figures. Beat Texas A&M by double figures. Blew out Missouri. ....Miss. State blew out most of the team's on the schedule last season, including SEC. Mostly blowouts or by double figures. Also, blew out South Florida (team that beat them earlier this season) last season...beat them by 25 pts. Beat Murray State by 81 pts (124-43). Other big blowouts against other non conference teams as well last season.

Appears several of the guards (examples...Matharu, Mingo-Young) are much more effective picking up man in backcourt, and other ball pressure related situations (team strengths) rather than playing half court prevent defense (team weakness). Also, stats and film appear to confirm this. This team forced 20.3 turnovers per game last season. Scored 23 points per game off of those turnovers. Lost Danberry but most of these returning guards played a lot, and were key in forcing these turnovers (were nationally rankeds in forced turnovers per gm) last season. Stats wise...one of the best in the nation in ball pressure last season. Most of these guards, wings are still on this team (minus Danberry and Hemingway who played the least). I realize Danberry was a 1 player wrecking crew defensively..but still appears enough of these returnees that were key parts of that effort to be bringing much stronger ball pressure than they have been thus far this season.
2019-20 season....
- Forced turnovers per gm...20.3
- Points off of turnovers per gm 23.0
- Steals per gm...9.2
- Total steals...304

Core of your pressure coming from...
Taylor
Mingo-Young
Matharu
Hayes
Wiggins
This, while needing Jackson to step up defensively...or share minutes with Mingo-Young and or Wiggins
