Moving towards the future. Next year will be interesting to see how much we improve, but I think 2022 is the year we should be building to. The freshmen this year will be juniors (or third year sophomores) by then, and it'll be year 3 of the air raid at MSU. Many of the same excuses used for our struggles this year will be gone. Our P5 OOC opponent will be Arizona, which should be a very winnable game. We do have Georgia from the east, but we get them at home. We should be a very veteran team. I'm aware, a lot can change between now and then, and it most definitely will. With kids getting a free year this year, it's hard to gauge who will still be around and who will go pro, but here's a crack at some of the guys (who will be two years older)that will be on that team.

QB: Sawyer Robertson (2nd yr) or Will Rogers (3rd year); it'll be a battle. Robertson is more naturally talented, but it'll be Rogers' third year in the system. I ultimately think talent wins out, but either way, we'll be in good shape at QB

RB: Jo'quavious Marks and Dillon Johnson (both 3rd year); Thunder and Lightning.

WR: Jaden Walley, Tulu Griffin, Teddy Knox, Geor'quarius Spivey, Jacobi Moore, Caleb Ducking, Cam Gardner, Rufus Harvey

OL: Charles Cross (might go pro next year), Cole Smith, Kam Jones, Dolla Bill, Grant Jackson, Nick Jones

DL: Charton (UCF transfer), Pickering (might go pro next year), Jaden Crumedy, Jordan Davis, Cam Young, Jevon Banks, Armondous Cooley, Aaron Odom, Jack Harris

LB: Aaron Brule, Bookie Watson, Deshawn Page, John Lewis, Demonte Russell

CB: Emerson (could leave after next year), Forbes (will definitely go pro after 2022), Decamarion Richardson; need some more guys here

S: Collin Duncan, Janari Dean, JP Purvis, Shawn Preston, Dylan Lawrence

This doesn't take into account potential transfers or signees in next year's class. But that's a lot of talent mixed in with experience that should set up for a good season in 2022.

According to what you expecting. In 2022, we will have 4 teams (Bama, Georgia, LSU, and aTm) on the schedule that have 3 straight top 8 classes, and you gotta feel that will be 4 by then. Hard to overcome that much of a talent gap, but who knows... look at LSU this year.

You have that every year minus Georgia

aTm is new at stacking them year-in, year-out. Under sumlin, they were more like auburn... top 5, and then 10-15, and then single digits again.

We'll see. If we're lucky, LSU will be in the middle of the shit storm that seems to be coming to them by this time.

I don't think we're going to win the west or anything, but we should be a veteran team in year 3 of Leach's system. If things don't start to click in 2022, they never will.

I would say Emerson is best chance to leave early. I would probably go ahead and expect it. He's got 1st-2nd round potential.

I actually think Brule could too. He was the 2nd best player on our defense this year behind Emerson. Not sure how his part in the brawl will affect things, but he's an NFL caliber player. Needs to put on 10 pounds and keep improving, but he's a potential Top 4 round player.

That secondary doesn't excite me. We need an impact transfer there because we aren't going to get a game changing safety by then. Same at CB. Emerson won't be here in 2022. Need better CBs immediately. We will need more along the DL too. I like what LB will look like. Offensively that excites me. Not sure there's a spot there where I see a glaring weakness. Got to get older and more talented defensively and that team has a chance to make some folks sweat.

I agree with that. We need to hit the defensive side hard in recruiting next cycle though.

There's the Jimbo love we've been missing lately. Thanks for stepping up 7.***

Can't help myself haha

I did call their big year this season 2 years ago though. They're gonna be a handful again next year too

I'm guessing Haynes king, but it's a guess. Could they talk mond back? Do they go transfer?

They'll take a big step back next year if that kid is their starter

I don’t see top 2 rounds for Emerson. Maybe 3rd. Forbes is a 1st rounder

Could be the case. I really don't know about their qb situation. I figure they'll come up with a capable one, but maybe not.

We could very very likely win 10 games in 22

I agree in premise. The biggest thing about next year is our schedule is much easier IMO than this year.

Three OOC games. We may or may not play NC State.

Kentucky at home- home team has won that game every year since 2015 and Vandy on the road.

Auburn is a veteran team but with a new coach so who knows what to expect there? They have a history of doing well under first year coaches but that's more antecdotal evidence than anything. Arkansas likely without Odom and I think they are losing Franks and their top running back and A&M without Mond.

Then we have LSU at home Alabama which will be a loss and Ole Miss at home. Seems favorable on paper for 6-6 at worst if most of the swing games don't go our way.

That's a pretty cool road game.

Wasn't that Jimbo's problem at FSU - the inability to sign and develop QBs? Sans Winston, they were bad at that position and had a revolving door.
