Terrible. How in the world can they not find just 1 more team to play them? There are around 70 teams out there who aren't scheduled for one.

Yeah, that's awful.

What a terrible look for Arizona State, Boise State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, SMU, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Washington.

Now if they legitimately had too much COVID to play, fine, but that's not going to be true for most of those.

Selfishly I'm glad we got a bowl. We need the extra practice.

Objectively, it's pretty screwed up we are going to a bowl at 3-7 while Army stays at the house.

We have nothing to feel guilty about as long as 2-8 South Carolina is playing. And since they had to cancel 4 bowls for lack of interest, all the teams who opted out should feel more guilty than South Carolina does.

I wish they would let us play them the week after Tulsa.

That's terrible for those guys that have worked their rear end off in this strange year.

Agreed. If I were Cohen I would invite them to Davis Wade.

Just shows how screwed up college sports is now. It ain't a level playing field.

Yeah that’s awful and to do it to a service academy makes it way worse.

Honestly I’d be fine with giving them our spot if the NCAA would let us keep the practices

I'd be fine if they went in our place in the Armed Forces Bowl as long as we go in South Carolina's place in whatever bowl they're going to.

It's absolute BS that MSU is catching flack for this from the media.

There are 70 teams that opted out of playing, 4 g5 schools in bowls with a sub .500 record, and a P5 team with a 2 win record and MSU is The one catching heat. It’s the dumbest shit I’ve seen today.

Where are we catching heat?

I’m assuming it’s because of the name of the bowl and how Army is the one getting screwed over. Wrong place, wrong time

Arizona State and Boise State both opted out of bowl games today after being in the mix and playing a game yesterday, so it's not like they're in a COVID outbreak.

Both of them were commonly projected to the Armed Forces Bowl, so that would have probably sent Tulsa to the Independence Bowl to play against Army. Blame those programs (or any of the others who opted out without a legit COVID issue) instead of the teams who were man enough to go play with a depleted roster.

All's fair in bowl game selection and war.

Apparently it's not over. The Military Bowl is willing to uncancel itself and have Army play if any other team will do it. Surely one of the 70 or so teams not in a bowl will take them up on the offer.

Absolute BS. State is 3-7, but ranked #38 by Sagarin with the #4 toughest schedule in the country. There are a bunch of bowl teams ranked worse than MSU, including our Armed Forces Bowl opponent Tulsa (#46). Let one of those "less deserving" teams bow out for Army.

Army is 9-2 but ranked #75 by Sagarin with the #127 SOS. They beat one team ranked about #60, another #90, and the rest all ranked worse than #100. Army is 9-2 but would likely/possibly go 1-9 with our schedule. So they are definitely not more deserving to play in a bowl than State.

This! In a normal year we would've won 6 games in been in a bowl anyways. So yeah we got nothing to feel bad about.

Military guys are use to getting screwed and if these guys are not, now is a good time to start. They probably didn't think anything about it. You give up a lot to be in the military but you gave it up. No one makes you join or go to a military college. Hell they are not even there for football. If any of them wanted to just go to college for football they would be at Vanderbilt or somewhere like that playing. Don't feel bad for them. They be ok.

UT and Ark also finished 3-7 and you would think they were 7-3. Typical media BS with the narrative that MSU don't deserve anything.

exactly ... just call this a reward for playing two games that we didn't HAVE to play because of Covid ... where's the recognition for that ?

This is exactly my point of college football in general. College football should not be the reason they go to college. It should be about the education they are receiving!

Shocked that this Ole Miss homer wants State to bow out of a bowl game. There is a reason his terrible radio show got canned.
