"I would be fine if <insert organization> here made the change on their own, I just don't want them to be forced by the government! Let the free market decide!"

Government ignores the issue. Eventually, the free market determines that <insert organization> is more profitable with <whatever change was discussed>.

"I'm not fine at all! Even though I don't even care about <insert organization> in the first place!"

This is something that guys my age (born the late 70s) may not all know. We inhabit the same geographic area as the urban folks born after 2000, but we are far, far different people and basically are like foreign nations in a nation. I am not talking even “Liberal v Conservative” from the 90’s. To the young kids really don’t like the old 80s and 90s liberals.

(1) we think psychology is for crazy people, they all have therapist like we have auto mechanics or cabinet guys
(2) we don’t know any Trans people, They have 20 Trans girls in their school
(3) we did not know a single respectable atheist person, they do not know a single religious person
(4) we don’t know any Gay people. They have 8 gay friends
(5) we expect to hear English spoken by our neighbors, they ride Ubers with fresh Afghans and Pakis everyday
(6) we grew up on American Excellence in school, they have 8 to 12 years of Cultural Marxism by 18
(7) a pregnant unwed woman was a family scandal to us, this is quite normal to them
(8) wokeness is their religion, they get it from the Social Media influencers. We older guys think people rambling on Internet monologues are Nut jobs, they are taken quite seriously by the young kids. We think people watch TV news.
(9) where people used to call out Satanic and Communist undertones in popular culture, the young kids are looking for “white supremacy” everywhere in everybody

Baseball teams are consumer products and they need to be popular to thrive. They are quite fragile, they can’t take unpopularity of even a small loud minority. We might be quite surprised how far and how big the new group really is. Plus the owner’s Woke, Trans, or Something grandkids could have told grandpa they will self harm or stop calling them unless they change the name. Easy fix and it only bothers law abiding guys with assets, careers, and net worth to protect.

So I read this as you were saying you're in your 70s, and was going to reply "You've actually known lots of gays, psychology patients, and atheists in your life, they just didn't tell you," but upon rereading, you're actually less than 10 years older than me, so I'm calling BS on the whole thing.

You don't know any gay people somehow, and also think that's a common experience for Generation X? Give me a break. You don't think any of age peers have been to a psychologist?

I think it's pretty well established that every tribe uses the word "Indians" in its name. The question isn't whether the word itself is offensive, it's whether it's appropriate to use a racial group as a team name. Do you think they could have made it 2020 or even 1970 as the Cleveland Blacks?

Rex54
12-14-2020, 08:26 AM
The point of things like this isn't to take it down because it's "offensive", it's because those in power cannot allow for different groups with different group interests to even be a thing. They can't allow this because they are actively pursuing a policy of replacing the American (and European) population through mass migration and how dare you notice that.

Well, being born in the early 1970s, I guess you and I grew up on wholly different planets. I've known people in therapy as long as I can remember; know trans people; know many respectable atheists and religious people (my kids have as well); have known and been friends with gay people as long as I can remember; have known and befriended immigrants my entire life; did not grow up on American Excellence - as once I got interested in history I saw that while the US is wonderful country, it has it flaws, has made its mistakes, and we should work toward reconciling the bad by creating more good. Having put 2 kids thru our education system both public and private (including THE Mississippi State University) the only difference in education now is access to information, computers, an admitted focus on teaching tolerance and equality (you know, as Jesus did), and the way they teach math sucks. Oh, and the Boomers who have been in charge of education and curriculum for the past 35 years make kids take too many standardized tests.
I know a number of unwed women who (gasp!) made a choice to have children who are incredible mothers. And thankfully, Teen pregnancy is down from highs in the 60% when you and I were teenagers and is in the 10s% now (mainly because we teach a LOT more about sex now so kids make better choices. As for Wokeness - well, there is this opposite end of the spectrum that has had a far louder voice much longer - AM talk radio, which grew into Fox News that is morphing into InfoWars/Newsmax/OAN; and yeah, people have quit listening when the right yells "SATAN" or "COMMIE" or "SOCIALIST!!" because after 80 years we know they are red herrings.

I don't know, probably not? "Indians" (in the context of Native Americans) is equivalent to whites or caucasians, not Irish specifically, which would be equivalent to a tribe name, which are fine if the have the tribe's blessing. I would assume the Irish government is aware and does not object.

If they were the Notre Dame Fighting Whites, it would have been changed decades ago.

The United States isn't a democracy, or wasn't meant to be one anyway. In 1787 as Benjamin Franklin was leaving the Constitutional Convention someone asked him, "Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?" He replied, "A republic, if you can keep it."

The difference between a republic and a democracy is individual rights (republic) vs majority rights (democracy). The people are at the whim of arbitrary power in a democracy. If whatever the 51% vote on in a democracy the 49% are subject to. The best way to describe democracy in an example I've found is (and this isn't my quote), "If 51% vote to steal your bike, you are without a bike. If 51% vote to kill you, you are out of a life. It does not matter if it is right or not, what the majority says is what happens."

John Adams wrote in a letter to John Taylor in 1814, "Remember Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes exhausts and murders itself. There never was a Democracy Yet, that did not commit suicide."

Yea people like to throw around the conspiracy label to discredit or shame people. Look into the origins of the word "conspiracy theorist" and it may shock you to learn where it came from. Wasn't long ago that people that said Epstein had a private island where elites went to and were involved in pedophilia orgies were called conspiracy theorists. The "Great Reset" was a "conspiracy theory" also until big names started publicly vouching for it.

Hilarious, I don't even live in Mississippi or even the south. Haven't done so since college. English is not even my first language.

The easiest and funniest thing is to say that I watch Infowars and OAN along with Coach Gundy from a personal bunker in Prentiss County, MS. Actually, what I said came from a 7-Figure HR VP/Consultant presenting to our company as we are considering Org-Planning and recruiting. Paraphrased to be less boring.

Topic was, staffing, managing, and leading new professional and technical labor forces. Punch line, we need special programs to manage the generational gaps and social mega-trends. Certain places are just too costly and complex to do business, like California and New Jersey. Texas and the South are great, but they will change too. We will need to incorporate programs, and Affinity group specialists (therapists) to keep some folks engaged and happy.

Romania, Thailand, Philippines, Costa Rica, and Singapore could come out as big winners (for professional employee sources) as they speak good English, cost less, and/or are much less complex to manage. Plus, it's easy to virtualize the work. Singapore, even as they are high cost, could be everything Houston is today in one professional lifespan.

Keeping it sports related, they can't move or virtualize a team like a global business. The goodwill is imbedded in their community, so they must change in that community to stay popular.
