I've been pretty negative and critical of our coaching and players so far. There's a lot to be disappointed about, but here is a list of freshmen and sophomores who have played significant minutes for us so far:

That's a solid core of young guys to build your team around for the future. That defensive group in particular will be really scrappy in a year or two.

I've noticed that too. The biggest thing to me though is we are adding in two four star WR's in Knox and Nabors to go along with Tulu. I think Jacobi Moore and Brandon Buckhaulter are going to be good on the outside as well. And then we have a few guys that are hurt- Janari Dean, JP Purvis, and DeMonte Russell that I think will help when they are healthy. I was really impressed with Armondous Cooley as well although he hasn't played a lot if at all this year.

We also offered a JUCO OL from MGCCC today. I know we have Jones from EMCC committed but we need all the help that we can get there.

We need to close on as many as we can out of Deion Smith for the offense and Ty Cooper and Calloway for the defense.

And we need to win the recruiting battle in 2022. That group has several guys that can come in quickly and help us out along with the core that you are talking about.

I'm not sure that Pendley fits this system or Furdge although I could see Furdge being a good special teams guy for us maybe.

Where has tulu been

He's played some on special teams. He wasn't available to play this past weekend. Probably Covid but that info gets wrapped up tight, so you never know. I think Tulu eventually breaks through. Not sure why he hasn't played as much as some others because he's the type of playmaker we need on the field.

It wasn't necessarily bad because we hit the JUCO targets VERY well- but like Jackie they have moved on and as a result we have a smaller senior class of players that have been here awhile. However, there are a few malcontents in this class that while they were talented they also caused issues at times (Hill/Gay) and the OL was a Hevesy recruiting disaster. Two didn't even make it to school and were reaches to start with. The best OL prospect in this group from a high school is probably Jackson- who has shuttled between DT and OL. Austin Williams may end up being the most productive guy in this class that plays four years- assuming Hill doesn't come back.

I remember the thinking on the December signing day that year "dear gosh that is a lot of JUCO's". And it didn't really matter in 2017 and 2018 because those JUCO guys are awesome while we actually had them. And even guys like Cole, Rivers, and Phillips who were still around in 2019 were solid players for us. But you're right, now we were feeling the effects of that being a very shallow high school class for us. The fact that we could only get one qualifying high school OL and he hasn't even been a contributor for us, yet we had room to give a scholarship to a two star tight end when we had a ton of TE's on roster, is pretty absurd.

The youth on our roster is encouraging, and if we can somehow find something with Rogers and the younger o-lineman in the next month and a half then we could find ourselves in the intriguing position next year of returning a lot of experienced guys who also have multiple years of eligibility left. Replacing Erroll will be tough, and assuming we lose both of our senior DE's we will have to figure out something there, but if we can get some guys playing well on the o-line, I'm optimistic about pretty much every position looking ahead to 2021 and 2022.

Moorhead's offense had guys wide open on film too, but it never clicked. In any event, it is promising to see the young guys get playing time, and I hope it pays dividends up the road.

I think this one will click because 1. It has for 20 years and 2. Leach will build a team culture of buy in while playing guys that execute rather than just talent

Moorhead's offense had some guys open sometimes but also apparently required everybody to perform calculus while they were trying to execute. Leach's is supposedly one of the simplest offense out there and just requires reps.

Hev was a very good line coach. THe problem was he couldn't recruit an entire line and 3 backups. We were always playing with fire with him. Think about how badly off we would have been if TBUck hadn't gone and gotten Reese. Doesn't matter if you coach them up if you can't at least get a few OL in each class.
