Wheat is going play OLB at 260?

Cole Smith over 300 is good.

Charles Cross is 290. Is that what we're hoping for?

Power Warren is listed. No opt out.

Tyler Williams is listed. Is that interesting?

JaVonta Payton now rocking #0. Didn't realize that was allowed, but I like it for some reason.

Several walk-ons at WR that have some height. I wouldn't be shocked to see 1 or 2 of them come in a play immediately.

New rule change this season allows 0, but not 00 (which I hate, give me a Robert Parrish 00!)

Quickness is way more important than height IMO

I can't tell much about attrition - but there seem to be a ton of new names beyond the signing class and well known transfers.

Also, glad to see Jaylen Mayden stuck around.

It's 120 names on the roster that's why.

Tribute to how many times he started under Moorhead when he should have started over Guidry.

Tyler is listed because he's holding onto his scholarship, which under the new rule he can do and not play.

I disagree. It seems we always have a quick receiver or two but are always missing that y'all receiver that can go up and battle for the ball. Like Bear Wilson.

You need both but if I had to only chose 1, it would be quickness.

To me, Bear was successful due to hands, body control, and girth more so than height.

Different position. Wheat will play more of a traditional lb. Davis will be an ‘edge’. LB/DE. Montez Sweat under Todd Grantham. And I’m pretty sure wheat is playing the will position, not mike.

No, it seems Wheat has been moved from WILL to SAM, so same edge position as Davis. He's listed that way on the roster and Paul Jones confirmed.

Just read that. That’s very interesting. I don’t know much at all about him, but he doesn’t see like the typical edge guy. Lawson has been moved from SAM to DE, so maybe it’s a depth move. Strange one to move though. From safety to basically a stand up de in two years.

Marquis Spencer listed as being 300lbs was interesting to me. That's good for a 3 man front DE playing on the same side as the SAM.

Some that I noticed. I always like to look at the freshmen going into their soph year and the weight gain some attain with a training table and a strength program.

King Ani from 6-4 230 to 255
De'monte Russell from 6-4 230 to 250
Jalen Mayden dropped 10 pounds
Lee Witherspoon dropped 10 pounds
Kobe Jones dropped 10 pounds
Cole Smith from 6-3 285 to 305
LaQuinston Sharp from 6-3 315 to 300
Kameron Jones from 6-5 325 to 305
"Dolla Bill" Johnson from 6-7 330 to 315
Charles Cross from 6-5 270 to 290

TE room...or what was the TE room
Geor'quarius Spivey from 6-5 250 to 240
Brad Cumbest from 6-5 250 to 245
Dontea Jones from 6-4 250 to 230

Some i'm not sure are positives....
Dareuan Parker from 6-4 330 to 355
James Jackson from 6-3 315 to 330 now on the OL
Marquiss Spencer from 6-4 285 to 300

Another notable:
Erroll Thompson from 6-1 250 to 250 Yeah...no change, at least on paper. I thought he was heavier and a step or two slower last year. I'll guess we'll see.

The Sam backers have to play a 4-3 de role at times in this scheme. Saw a quote from one of the coaches not too long ago, so 260 probably a good weight for that in between role.

From what little I know, Errol has added muscle and leaned up a bit so that's a good trade.

Yea, I didn't think Errol was necessarily too heavy last year, he just didn't look like he was in shape. If he just lost ten lbs of fat and replaced it with ten lbs of muscle, that might be fine. Hell, it looked like he was carrying 15 or more extra lbs last year, but I'm guessing it wasn't that bad.

Don't think he can 'hold his scholarship' without actually being there!

So, given we are out of scholarships now (assuming Tyler Williams is still using a scholly), in hindsight, if they had come available at the same time, would we have rather had Tyrelle Shavers or Dontavean Martin to use the last scholarship? i think I personally would have preferred Martin with his knowledge of the offense and proven statistics on the field.

Apparently Martin and Leach didn't get along.

I'll take the upside of shavers. Martin seems like the type that may help us beat Tulane more than Shavers, but, if you want a chance to compete in the SEC, you've got to have Shavers type talents.

Plus we get Shavers for two years which completely tips scales in his favor.
