The Rangers should be fine because, while their history may include some incidents like most all long standing law enforcements, they are known & celebrated for positive things.

While I am for the change of the flag & I'm Ok with the removal of Gator Bait due to the history of the term being made public, the removal of the Texas Rangers would be crossing the line.

Maybe, but those groups would have to push for the removal of those names.

The reason that those names haven't been removed yet is that, while the SJWs are pushing for the removal, the actual Indians are not. If the Indian nations rather than the SJWs stood up & called for the removal of those names, they would be changed. However, I've spoken to a few Indian friends about the Redskins & it's their favorite team & they like the name.

The slavery & confederate stuff gets cancelled because the offended party actually stands up against it.

I doubt Florida did that on their own. I still think that one is an extreme response because it's not a "unique" phrase that you might not say in everybay gator hunting anyway and it CLEARLY isn't meant as a reference to the shared imagery when used in a football fasion. It's pretty obviously tied to Tiger Bait or any other numerous "bait" cheers where the intent is that we're going to devour you on the field.

Unless you could tie it directly to the cheer having UF ties pre-integration and came about as a way to insult black players on other teams then I don't think removing it was necessary.

I mean would you want to get rid of the Maroon and White cheer b/c the word "white" is included?

That's not an accurate story of how it happened. The government of the Sioux tribe said no.^ The government of the Seminole tribe said yes. In neither case did the opinions of tribe members matter. The NCAA has consistently said they will defer to the opinions of the tribal governments and followed that.

As a further example, the Choctaw government has OK'd Mississippi College, who has less political pull than any D1 school, so they can keep it.

The NCAA is absolutely terrible in so many ways, but this is one example of applying a rule fairly. Any school at any level can use the tribe of a tribe ONLY IF the tribal government says OK. If a random nobody gets the OK, they can have it. If Florida State were to lose the Seminole government's blessing, the name would be gone.

^ - There are actually federally recognized multiple Sioux tribes and only 1 actually said no, but that's enough in the eyes of the NCAA.
