I had the honor of getting to know a member of the 101st airborne division who parachuted behind enemy lines on the D Day invasion. As a member of the Screaming Eagles, this man parachuted out of a plane on 6/6/1944 in the pitch dark of night. He freely talked about that night and what took place. Courage at its peak. I have a picture with him that was taken on the D Day anniversary a few years back. A cool moment for me.

If not for COVID-19, I would be in Normandy this very minute. Had to cancel last year due to untimely back surgery. Good Lord willing, I will get there next year.

His name is Bradford Freeman. I had the honor of hearing him speak and meeting him a few years ago. He autographed my old beat up version of the book, which dates to long before the TV show. Mr. Freeman isn't in the show, but he is in the book. He is a nice old man, you would never guess he was that kind of bad ass back in the day if you meet him in a context outside the war.

Got you all beat. When I was in the 82nd ABN in the mid 80s I got to Meet and listen to James Gavin and also Maj Julian Cook. Gavin led the 505 PIR early in WW2 africa Sicily Salerno and was ADC for Operation Neptune, The Airborne operation of Overlord, Division Commander for Market Garden and the rest of the War. 40 Years after the Invasion he could still tell you every thing that happened during the war. Maj Cook was portrayed by Robert Redford in the Movie The Bridge To Far. I asked him how Redford did portraying him in the movie and he said great. He led the suicide mission paddling canvas boats across the Maas Waal river at Nijmegan. He was a Devout Catholic and as in the Movie he said his hail marys while crossing. These guys are what you call Heroes.

that's pretty cool ... I was Army TDY at at an air base (Lowry) in 1980 and my company commander was Omar Bradley's Grandson .... it was so cool to hear the inside stories from that perspective - those guys really went through a lot
