Very sad. Victim of COVID-19.

He may have had the Corona, but I bet it was the Whiskey that got em....

Still, 80 is a helluva run for someone that lived as hard as he did... I hope I'm as lucky...

I’d be ok with whiskey getting me at 80.

Not when you're 79.

This is false. He was asymptomatic of the Whuan Flu. I saw him a few years back and he was already in rough shape. What killed him was his chronic kidney problems as well has being 80.

My old motto "If the women don't get me, then the whiskey must!"
Pat Dye had serious kidney issues among other things, the covid 19 was just on top of all the other things.
Pat Dye was never a friend of MSU, he was a cheating 'fellow' (word used out of respect for the dead).
And yes I was around for his whole tenure at Awbarn. RIP Coach!

Maybe so, but roughly a week ago they announced he was positive for the COVID-19 virus and now he is dead. Not many 80 year olds are recovering from this thing but if you say its not what got him I'll believe you.

The news article I read contributed cause of death to renal problems.

From what I understand, he was in the hospital with his kidney issues and they went ahead and tested him. He was asymptomatic but tested positive.
