I live in north MS about an hour and a half from Starkville. I drove through on Sunday and couldn't help but notice how terrible the landscaping maintenance on highway 12 has gotten from the football complex all the way to Chick fil A. For those of you in the know, didn't MDOT donate all the trees and plants to the city when the bypass was under construction? From the explanation I got, the city was supposed to keep up said landscaping. Either way it is an embarrassment on the city and university if that is as good as we can do. Hell, it looked better with just grass! There are weeds, vines, erosion, you name it, in there. First impressions are big and the front porch to our city/university looks like crap. The mayor and president need to get together and get this corrected ASAP!

I made the same drive Saturday, from 82 onto 12 west. Told the hot wife that I didn't like the way the trees in the median blocked the view of the baseball stadium. That view of the stadium is awesome. Not sure why we would do tress right there and block it.

Yep whoever laid the landscaping plan out, did a poor job. The little crepe myrtles were spaced about six feet apart and now they look like a forest in Vietnam. Can't see shit. They took all the grass off the steep hill exiting off of 12 onto Collegview Drive and replaced it with some sort of plants that didn't take and now you have nothing but bare spots all over the hill. The area from Russell Street to Chick Fil A is pitiful. Rant over. Need to hire Doc Foglesong to tighten that area up ASAP!!

Yeah, Doc could make a couple of napalm runs from his bi-plane and problem over! Hail State!

I have not missed an home game in 7 years and I have not driven up HWY 12 during the day.

Last time I was in Starkville, I noticed the same terrible look on 12. But, the overall landscaping has been going down for a while. We have some nice new buildings, but the turf and flower beds, etc. just are not maintained how they used to be. There used to be many more boots on the ground so to speak, that would take care of all that all the time. Now I think they try to only take care of things on some maintenance schedule, no matter how bad it looks between. I have a Grandfather and two great uncles that used to work for the U in the maintenance department, so I've seen how it has looked for a long time. Right now our leadership is just not making it a priority.
