From someone with ties to our financial aid office, our athletes received an additional $600 Covid-19 stimulus check. Money must be falling out of the sky! They have been burning the phones up to get their checks

Is that on top of the CARES Act check that went to most students who are eligible for financial aid? My daughter got $550 last week.

We will soon not have to worry about funding athletic scholarships as the players can pay the school with a cut of their endorsement $ and personal appearance compensation. Heck, bama and blue blood program players will even be able to pay for their masters and doctorates.

How many would you think would qualify for graduate degrees, regardless of money?

Oh Boy, this opens up a big old can of worms!

In the old days, back when I went to college and even before, sports was an extracurricular activity and you had to academically qualify (on your own merit) before you could play sports. Now this assumes that you qualified to attend college in the first place. Today and for several years now, "athletes" (a lot of times they are just thugs) get special treatment (read lie/cheat/steal) their way into universities but of course with the universities blessings. All because we want to be competitive with the other guy!

Now don't flame me as I want to be competitive and win championships too, but we put so ,much emphasis on sports these days, it overshadows the primary purpose of attending a university in the first palace. That is to get an education. Everybody's heard stories of pro athletes not being able to read at a 6th grade level at college completion (notice I don't use the term graduate as I really wonder how many truly qualify to graduate). Or how many athletes get scammed out of their money, when they go pro, as they do not know how to manage it. This is absolutely pitiful and should not be allowed. College has become the FARM league for pro sports.

We are way out of balance is all I am saying! Yes, I love sports too, but something is wrong with this picture. NO, I don't think we will be able to put the genie back in the bottle and return to an academic focus before sports.

Yes, I know there are some that do truly qualify and do graduate but do the 4 and 5 star recruits as a whole? An honest question!

Surely I am not the only one that feels this way?
