Every school in this state has a player or players that are identifiable to that school but one.

USM.. Brett Favre. Ray Guy
UM.. Charlie Connerly. Eli and Archie
Alcorn..Steve McNair
JSU.. Walter Payton
MVSU..Jerry Rice
MSU..???? Jackie Parker was a great player at State and in Canada but he never played in the NFL. Hell, have we ever had a qb play quarterback in the NFL. Maybe if we just look at our history, we can find our why our present is so bad. Just about every coach since Darrell Royal has been fired. Mostly average players. A few good ones here and there. Dan Mullen has about fallen in line with our history. Which is to say mediocre at best.

Not trying to jump on your ass but this just sounds a lot like the poor ol State attitude people have. State has had several first round draft picks in just the past few years. Walt Harris was a helluva CB for a long time in the NFL. Eric Moulds was a good WR for a long time. I could go on

Oh and just FYI Archie Manning threw 31 TDs and 40 INTs in his college career. Not a legend by any means

You didn't answer my question. Who is our signature player. You can't hide from the past.

Archie is one of the highest profile football people in America and a college football legend whether us State folks want to acknowledge it or not.

Dixon could be that guy. So could banks or slay. Time will tell. Hell maybe even Vick Ballard.

Come on people. You made my original point. When you start naming obscure cornerbacks as your greats then you have a problem. Decent players but ouside of MSU fans nobody knows anything about them.

The people on the love boat cruise know Smoot. I just bet the water was jealous, though. Smoot is just supposed to cover land and not the 75% of the earth covered by water.

Archie was the Heisman favorite until he broke his arm his senior year. He came back and played in the Bowl game in a cast...

In the first national prime time broadcast of a college football game (1969), Manning threw for 436 yards and three touchdowns, also rushing for 104 yards, in a 33–32 loss to Alabama. (Yea he sucked)

He was also the #2 pick in NFL draft..
