With all the talent coming into the division, I really feel like the Saints need a WR. Someone to put opposite Mike Thomas. I'd prefer Emmanuel Sanders to play the slot.

it's my theory that recruiting rankings have had a big hand in this consolidation.

The 4 schools mentioned here are 4 of the biggest cheaters in college football & recruiting rankings are advertisements to boosters of who they need to get involved with. They also have publicized recruiting from different areas of the country that in the past these schools may not have known as much about.

Or maybe they just rate players that commit to those schools high.

I'd be interested to see how many 5 star guys get drafted in the first round as a whole group. If you did it that way they don't look so smart.

His recruiting story doesn't make any sense to me.

Two brothers that played for LSU
Future 1st round pick
LSU offered him a scholarship when they only have 25 & can take far higher rated players
And he was ranked a 79?

Doesn't make any sense how that happened.

There has to be a really interesting recruiting/hiding out story here

Did he just commit really early & no one ever went to evaluate him?

Maybe. I think the publicizing of recruiting & combines that allow kids from across the country to become friends has led to it being easier for these schools to reach their tentacles across the country & grab more of these freaks.

I'm not saying that these things are bad, but, if the world desires some sort of parity in college football, there will need to be adjustments in the way teams acquire talent.

We lose recruits because the rules are set up and will always be to a few big boys in each conference. This is a media driven, tv rating sport. The big tv ratings teams will always be allowed to get away with things mid to lower power 5 teams will be scrutinized for.
A mid tier team will be investigated if they step on the big boys if they get multiple big time players from these top tier protected teams.

Very true.

Like Texas A&M. They aren't a blue blood & don't have a tradition of high level success, but because of the size of their fan base, they are basically given the green flag to go state by state, including MS, & buy players

Absolutely. Dan did well finding diamonds in the rough and developing them. But you have to have some 4-5 star talent around them to reach our full potential and Dan simply didn't do that enough. Imagine our 2018 team with Gardner Minchew, AJ Brown, Lashley, Derrick Brown, Jamarcus Bradley, Omar Bayless, and the guy from Auburn who I can't pronounce his name. THAT is how Dan limited our ceiling at MSU.

Probably that Kylin is still in school? I'm not sure why some of our fans shit on Kylin. Because of his twitter? Because it sounds cool to say that he's bad in pass protection? People in West Point that have their feelings hurt that he started over Aeris still? He has had two 200 yard rushing games in his career here with a crappy passing offense in Moorhead's system which has only happened about 10 times in MSU history and last year was the fourth best season in MSU history in terms of rushing yards.

I remember a lot of our fans saying the same things about Anthony Dixon when he played.

200 yds against who? And I know the answer which is my point.

And AD could actually break tackles against upper tier competition and I thought he had a shot at making it ... Which he did briefly. He was tough and a work horse ... Not the fastest guy tho.

Same with Norwood but he had the speed and elusiveness.

ETA .. BTW I thought he entered the draft but now I do believe he finally decided to stay. Hell ... I hadn't been following closely and he changes his mind every 15 mins or so.

K-State in 2018 and Arkansas 2019. Why is that your point? Again- it's only been done 10 times in school history. We've had good running backs that weren't able to do that against similar competition the vast majority of the time. It's an impressive feat no matter who the competition is.

We threw a no hitter against Alcorn State several years ago. That's still impressive even though they sucked. Do you think JJ Johnson sucks because he never had a 200 yard game against a bad team? Or Dak?

DeltaChicagoDog

Your impulse here feels right on, Todd. MSU players are our guys/gals. They put on the colors and work their tails off for MSU and the fans day in and day out, whether it's personally motivated or not. Anyone who attends Mississippi State has a personal motivation for doing so. To get a degree and/or further and improve their life in some way. Why dump on KH? For being the age he is and in the time we live in?

MSU "family" is mostly useful marketing strategy, but it's not all BS. If there is a family component, it's the alumni/fans, many of whom are multigenerational, and the players. All of whom at one time or another, eat, sleep, and breathe Mississippi State. Coaches come and go. They aren't "family" so much as a spouse/ex spouse. There are ways we can be critical without being asinine or a glutton for negativity.

A no hitter against anyone and to keep running the score up in football games against weak ass teams is not the same thing.

JJ Johnson was a damn good back too who gained yds against tough competition ... Like Boobie & Norwood. Dak was a good QB. So was Fitz.

But if a QB throws for a lot of yards against weak competition it doesn't mean anything. Just the completion ratio. Got it.

That was actually referring to his KT assessment but Fitz would work too. I have to differ with you on Hill, I'm a big fan. MSU as a whole sucked against stiff competition the last two years, not just Kylin.

Hill rarely had a hole last year in SEC games. He is a good back and gets criticized way too much. He led SEC in rushing for goodness sakes. Other teams played weak teams too and they didn't have the leading rusher.

We threw a no hitter against Alcorn State several years ago. That's still impressive even though they sucked. Do you think JJ Johnson sucks because he never had a 200 yard game against a bad team? Or Dak?

I thought JJ had like 237 yds against someone? I'll have to look that up but that is not the point of your post. I agree that does or doesn't make him a good back. But JJ was a great RB. That was Jackie bully ball at its finest. JJ could truck some folks.

Hill runs hard and at times ran for his life part of the year. Hope he has a monster year this year.

JJ had over 200 yards vs Alabama, 1998.

I wish the Saints could have traded their first next year for the Colts 2 second this year and could have gotten one of the WR and Gay or another defensive player. I would have been going all in on what may be Brees last year

Good moves for the Saints to get Baun

Raiders being weird again - taking 3 receivers out of first 4 picks

They must've dug up Al's draft playbook.

They must've dug up Al's draft playbook.

They may be drafting QB or trading for a QB next year and their WR group was at best bottom 10 in the NFL. Maybe bottom 5. And they are in the same division as the Chiefs. Have to fight offense with offense when it's as good as the Chiefs offense is.

I'll say this. I wouldn't be shocked to see Gruden make a push for Dak if he goes unsigned by the Cowboys. Young group of WR with a solid QB and a good OL and your RB in Jacobs. They could be contenders with a move like that.

So 3 first rounders, 1 second rounder, and one 3rd rounder off that 2018 defense. Plus Hoyette who is in the NFL.

Gerri Green was a 6th rounder as well.

And Joe lost 5 games with it

So a kid from Colorado (linebacker) got drafted in the 3rd round that was from Magnolia MS and went to Coahoma CC.

Somehow with all our LB problems we apparently didn't even offer and CO was on him first. He did visit OM, Mizzou and Ark.

Yikes.

I feel the worst kind of embarrassment thinking about all the excuses I made for Joe in '18. Damn....**** me, lol.

Evaluation is really hard. Some kids just get better.

We'll always miss on players regardless of who is our coach

I want us to recruit good players & couldn't care less where they're from.

See, the only reason this matters is because we didn't have much depth at LB.

If we would've recruited good players & had the neccessary depth at LB, then no one would've said anything about this kid.

I want to stop taking chances on bad players & sign 25 good ones every signing period. If we can do that, it doesn't matter where they come from.

When talking D tho ... we can fill out a damn good roster with kids within a 3 to 5 hour radius. Mostly 3 if you count JC system too.

Getting back to this draft do the Saints take Fromm or Herbert? They need to be looking for Drews replacement and these 2 are a good value for a late round pick. Change out Eaason for Herbert. Sorry getting old.

Really not surprising, considering only that lack of talent could find a way to lose to Moorehead twice, lol.
