View Full Version : Our lack of vertical passing game hurts our offense so badly

Until we can spread defenses out, we will never perform offensively against good teams at a high enough level for 4 quarters to beat them. Teams blitz the shit out of us, play close to the line of scrimmage, and sell out in the run to stop us because we can't make them pay down the field. Once or twice a game isn't enough. We've got tall fast guys and we need to use them that way instead of this slow, methodical offense we run.

I don't get it either.

Yep, We don't ever take a shot downfield. Makes no sense. Like several other things we do

It is hard to take shots down the field when your Oline cant block long enough for anybody to get open.

You're exactly right about our lack of a vertical passing game. Bear Wilson needs to play 5X as much as he is now. Our o-line is average- and that goes back to recruiting and coaching.

You did a great job of listening to the commentators.

But we still out-gained USC by 70 yards and dominated every offensive stat

Except the only stat that matters.

Well... thats obvious, but you get the point. Our problem is execution, not play calling. Sure, I'd like to throw the ball down the field more, but that isn't the reason we are losing.

Ha! Here we go complaining about the OLine. Our OL did pretty good today. Clowney was pretty much a non factor all day. If Dak would just take off every time he senses pressure instead of trying to throw it, we would be much better off. On each of those interceptions, he had running room to take off. He will learn. By next season, I don't think you will see teams blitz him as much because he will make them pay for it.

I just don't think DAK is accurate when throwing over 20yards.

That's the only reason I can see.

Wrong. He's thrown some absolutely beautiful deep touch passes this year. I'm more comfortable with him throwing a 40 yard back shoulder fade than a 15 yard bullet. In all facets of passing, he just needs to become more consistent. It's not like he's always a little wild; sometimes he's right on the money, other times he's five yards off. Based on his progress thus far, I think he'll be about where he needs to to be a consistent passing threat by next year.

Russell is the answer.
