View Full Version : Recruiting Question

With the likely commitment of Bryant coming any minute, I have a question: Has MSU ever signed a better group of playmakers in one recruiting class?

Before you laugh and call me a Genespager, watch the below videos and tell why this isn't the best group of offensive playmakers we have ever signed in one recruiting class.

Throw out the star ranking and all the other bullshit (Staley), and just watch the video's. Watch the speed, the agility, the size, and make up your own mind.

Not trying to be a sunshine pumper. Just simply seeing an arbitrage that has taken place in college football recruiting.

I still remember the Hargro and Bivins video, they were studs.

I thought Arceto Clark's video was as good as any I had ever seen.

Big issue is Jackson probably not being able to really contribute until 2015, and it's not like we don't have talent at RB already. What we need is playmakers at WR and a stud OT.

Personally I like our wr's next season. Lewis, RJohnson, Ross, Wilson, morrow, holloway, and the redshirts we get next season make a nice base

Brandon Bryant's versatility and playmaking ability reminds me of Derek Pegues. Albeit he doesn't have the same quickness and top end speed. His game just jogs fond memories of "Pegasus", one of my all time favorite bulldogs.

You sure he doesn't have the similar quickness or top end speed?

I honestly can't tell from the video

Just watched Bryant's video again, and Pegues isn't a very good comparison. Bryant is much bigger than Pegues. He is 6'1" 200 LBS right now.

Bryant could end up being a 6'1"-6'2" fast safety. Could be Clarence McDougal/Ed Reed type.

Would be interesting to compare him to CJ Hampton.

Jackie signed Dicenzo and Justin Griffith in the same class i think- and that class had a few more big time guys in it

But yes, this class is getting raked over the coals by our fans and OM fans- but it's very underrated

We do have more talent on our team since 2010 and the Kang era, however so does everyone else. It's easy to have a narrow view of talent and forget to realize that other teams have tremendous talent with the 7-7 teams and how football has evolved over the last ten years. I think we are going to have to move beyond the state of MS if we want to compete. Many on here were arguing that we had best linebacker group in the SEC. Like I said then, we have a good lb's but so does everyone else. Coaching is what often times sets teams apart ....

And don't leave "my boy" Nick Fitzgerald out if that mix. He is a phenomenal athlete. Many on here have dogged his lack of passing stats - but he led the region in receiving yards last year, and will lead the region in rushing this year. He has an "it" factor to him.

No doubt, I should've have included him.

Yes, everyone else has more talent, but as we move close to having 22 very good players on both sides of the ball, the closer we get to being able to beat anyone.

That's the goal, that we have enough talent that the game does come down to coaching. Thats what we all want.

We've talked about this before, but there is diminishing returns for every good player you have after 22. If we have 30 good players and Alabama has 65, is there really that big of a difference between the two teams on game day considering that Bama and us will only play 35 guys?

Play 35 guys? Seriously? MSU plays 60+ every week.

Yes, the class looks pretty good in offensive skill positions and at linebacker(if we hold Green).

Why are we not chasing DTs? JUCO DTs even? Jones is making it obvious how mediocre we otherwise are there. And we haven't "hit" on a single other player at the position in 3 classes. Got several with potential -- but none that's put it together.

Why are we not chasing a JUCO FS? Even if we intend to move Cox back, that's a big position of weakness on our defense right now -- and it's got zero depth.

The trenches are our problem now... not skill position recruiting...

A lot of these guys dog out the recruits on here. They act like the recruits can't get on here and see whats said about them. Even the Parents for that matter. FANS are important to recruits. If you can't say nothing good, just don't say nothing at all. Fitzgerald is a TREMENDOUS player! They should be glad to have him and my son considering the situation. They gonna mess around and run them away. IJS

Certainly agree with your sentiments though I haven't really seen MSU fans "dog out" recruits on this board. There were some comments on a recruit yesterday because of his extremely low ranking and the fact no one had previously heard of him but other than that the only comments I have ever seen on this board or other MSU boards have been that we need to raise the overall level of our recruiting which we do. Nothing really talking negatively about any individual committed recruit for sure.

This class is great but they have to actually sign with us first! This will be my favorite class of all time, regardless of ranking, if they stick with us till NSD!
