What in the world is Napier waiting on?

Does he think he's going to jump from ULL to a blue blood?

The media is basically making fun of us now

Am I supposed to believe he was interested in the OM job but not MSU when we have far more talent?

Stop being bi-polar... chill dude.. don't believe everything that is said.. YOU all too well should know not to trust everything everyone says when playing the game of life decisions..
How about he's waiting to finish his record setting season at his present job... the right thing to do.

There's a difference in denying interest thru coach speak and outright saying you have declined an offer.

Guys:

1) Mcmurphy said "source", not "Napier himself", so stop acting like Napier told an outright lie to a reporter if he does wind up here.

2) literally anything other than "I'm not taking that job" is 100% going to be read as "I am taking that job". If you asked Mullen in '14 "Hey are you looking at X job?" And he said LITERALLY ANYTHING OTHER THAN "NO", you'd immediately assume he was.

3) if he turned us down it's obviously because our offer was too low- our flirtmance has gone on way too long for him to just generally not be interested at all. That means theres time for boosters to look around, decide Napier really is worth more than the offer he turned down, and counter offer with more.

ShotgunDawg

Paul Jones just made an interesting comment on Genespage.

He said that usually when a candidate comes out & says they have declined the job it means that a hire has already been made. Not usually, but most of the time.

Assuming that Paul knows more than us, I find this interesting

Several possibilities here and only McMurphy reporting this . I doubt that Napier even made a comment concerning an offer. It could be his agent wanting to get him more money, he doesn't want any distractions for the bowl game, or the deal is already done. You offer him less than $4 million and what McMurphy said could be true.

Irondawg
01-03-2020, 08:05 PM
With Napier we have the leverage - we're the big job calling with no other suitors. He can see what we do but at the end of the day it would be tough to turn down $3M plus a year to stay another year at ULL when he's about to lose a ton of seniors on offense. He'd be taking a big gamble that other big jobs will be interested next year.

The thing to keep in mind is that our FLOOR is Hud or Grantham and those are not terrible options. So Cohen isn't screwing up by not having a guy lined up when we fired Moorhead. That would have been true right after the Egg with the signing class in the balance, but now we can take our time. The only mistake that could be made was NOT firing Joe.

MetEdDawg
01-03-2020, 08:09 PM

If we went after him around Egg Bowl time and backed out, I would be squeezing us too. Noncommittal is not a good look from us. So if he was ready then and we didn't pull the trigger and backed out, I would want additional financial guarantees as well.

Turfdawg67

Absolutely assbackwards. We lead this guy to the altar in November then jilt him in the 11th hour. Now we're back with our dick in our hand asking him if he will have us again. If I was him I'd ask for the 17ing moon and tell us the kiss my ass until we get right or he decides to wait for the next train to come in. Cohen may be thinking the rest of the 800k or so (if 34s figures are right) are gonna be valuable for his DC. Not sure.

We need to get head man right first and Napier is the right guy IMO. The good thing is the fallback options aint bad. Grantham is a dawg and would take less money, which means more for his staff and Hud is a State lifer and would walk here. Just happens to be a pretty good coach himself

I find it hard to believe we told him we would definitely have a job opening even if we won the Egg Bowl and got a bowl bid. I would be willing to bet the Nov negotiations (what there were of them) were contingent on us having a losing record and thereby getting rid of Moorhead at that time.
