No idea what to think here, but if Luke had a hand in om's oline performance this year, maybe he's not so bad... I, and EVERYONE here thought they'd be awful, but they weren't

That OL was bad. They lit up people while they were getting killed and the defense was loose.

They were supposed to be all time bad according to this board, and they weren't

“According to this board” is the key here lol

Only because Plumlee was fast enough to run for his life. They were last in the SEC in TFL's allowed, 7th in Sacks allowed, and 10th in 3rd down conversions. They were bad.

2nd in rushing
3rd in total offense

Garage in there, sure, but better than expected

That is about the only way we scored on SEC defenses also but UM did it against Bama and LSU when we didn't. Their Oline was supposed to be worse than ours but it really wasn't.

Dumb take. Matt Luke is a buffoon and lacks the gravitas of most SEC head coaches, but he is reputed to be a very good position coach. And actually did a credible job of leading tsun this year. They were far more competitive than most expected - they played several teams closer than we did and almost beat us on our home field despite inferior talent.

As a position coach that brings big picture perspective and can act as an unofficial associate end coach in the locker rooms, decent hire for UGA.

That output was better than expected. He also wasn't coaching the OL or running the offense. Those results are much more about Rich Rod then anything. Go look at what OM's OL did with him as OL coach. Outside of 2015, they were pretty bad. Bottom 3rd of the SEC in TFLs allowed and Sacks allowed.

In the fall camp video it's RR coaching the OL. Luke is an average at best OL coach.

The offensive line stat rankings had UM pretty much accords the board from 70-85th in the rankings. Rushing and passing. We are still a good rushing OL but pass blocking was very poor. So they were bad across the board we were still Top 20 to Top 10 in rushing yard to gain credited to OL, stuff rate, etc.

Ole Miss fans wanted to run him off when he was the OL coach. They bumped him up to head coach instead.

I was talking to a coach early last week who said " if I were to take over a D-1 program Matt Luke is one of the guys I would want to be my O-line coach". So the guy obviously has some credibility as a position coach among his peers.

Someone correct me, but I think he was rumored to Georgia as OL coach before getting the interim HC tag. I might be wrong but am almost sure he has been linked to Kirby’s staff before.

Being a head coach you get to know other head coaches and he might have become good friends with Kirby and Luke wasn't a bad O line coach. He might be better then what we have.

Yes. How nice it must be to have a former SEC HC As an assistant.

He was going to South Carolina to be the OL coach for Muschamp; they told him to stick around in case they had to let Freeze go and it sure worked out for him monetarily.
