Just now the Arkansas beat writer said that Arkansas has offered Kiffin $10 mil per year for his him & his coaching staff.

With 1 head coach & 10 assistants

That would allow Kiffin to take

5 mil
OC - 1 mil
DC - 1 mil
3 million left over for 8 position coaches at an average of $375K per year.

Will OM match that?

They certainly could... The sum of their next 2 SEC welfare checks is gonna approach $100 Mil...

Any SEC school can "afford" about "any" coach... "Optics" could be an issue in some places...

You have to understand MS law to make that statement. The max any public official can make in MS is like 300k. The rest has to come from alumni associations.

This.

Facilities & most staffing can be paid off of the SEC funds, but anything above $300k has to be paid privately

So, couldn't said alumni associations reallocate funds (to a coaching staff) that would normally go to Facilities, etc and displace them with the SEC money...

If ACC/FIN analytics taught me anything, it's that there's always "a way"... That being said, I'm not savvy in matters of MS Gov't Employee Compensation Legislation...

I'm not sure about that.

Yes. The SEC money certainly helps A LOT

Just saying that it's not certain that OM can pay all of Luke's buyout while also paying Kiffin's staff 10 mil a year

I'm don't think Kiffin is even worth that. I think you could get equal or better production with someone making far less than that

If I was Kiffen, I'd jump at that offer. It's pretty generous.

State Law.

Yup, I don't know if it's still the case, but, at one time, less than $1 Mil of Saban's $7-11 Mil Salary was paid by the school/state... The rest was donations, talent fees, etc...

My favorite Bear quote, when asked why Football coaches got paid so much more than the professors, he replied how many people will pay $60 to watch a math class.

I think it was "How often do 60,000 people show up to watch a professor teach."

But your point stands...

A little side note: Bryant refused to be paid more than the UA President during his tenure... I think, for a while there, he made $99,999.99 per year. (the prez made $100k)

Arkansas can / may pay more than 10M..... negotiation tactic. If they want someone more than OM, they'll get him.

In the year 2023, half of their football budget will include paying off ex-coaches.

He has a point. Football coaches also get fired at a much higher rate than math teachers too. If you don't perform as a football coach it's pretty obvious.

It's sounding like Kiffin may go to Ole Miss instead but LSU did just fine surrounding Orgeron with really good coordinators by doing that. I don't think anyone suddenly thinks he is this great coach lol. But they shelled out money for a great staff.

If OM hires Kiffin or if AR hires Kiffin, either one in that bidding war, will be forced to over pay his market value in the coaching scene to get him as their head coach.

Well "other" could be saban or Moorhead, so I'll stick with the 3...

1. Norvell
2. Kiffin/Napier tie
