We thought Greg Byrne was going to get Petersen for us. We tracked Byrne's plane to Denver because we knew he was going to interview him there-not too far from Boise State where Petersen was coaching then. Rumor was we knew how Petersen liked the blue field at Boise State so we would paint Scott Field maroon if he came with us. Of course with our luck he declined our offer to be HC, and Byrne then hired Mullen.
