Cohen had a godawful first season and somehow had an even worse second season, and he dug himself out of it to have a successful tenure anyway. That's got to be affecting his mindset. He knows what it's like to be embattled. He knew in his heart that he could turn around the program and even though a lot of fans didn't see it, he proved himself right.
There are some key differences. Polk didn't leave him nearly the talent that Mullen left JoMo, and our reputation and fan support in baseball allowed us to recruit at a high level even when we weren't winning. But somehow I think Cohen must be blind to those differences and has deluded himself into thinking "well if I could turn around a program after an awful start, my guy JoMo can do it after a start that wasn't nearly as bad."
