One sports television source not directly affiliated with the SEC or the deal estimates an eventual worth of around $400 million per year in SEC television revenue from ESPN and CBS (which pays $55 million per year). That'd be $28.5 million per team before factoring in bowl game earnings or NCAA credits.


It's just going to get tougher and tougher for us to compete in football with all this. CBS shows the same games year after year- keeping those brands at the top year after year. At least we got thrown a Thanksgiving bone

On one hand, the money has been great in separating us from the little guys in college football- but it's widening the gap between the top half of the SEC and the bottom

Important to note that it's my understanding that this is just tier 1 and tier 2 rights -- and that $$ figure doesn't even include the SEC network. Was worded tricky in the initial article. Basically, it says this is the money we will get from ESPN and CBS. SECnetwork money will actually come from cable providers and be shared with ESPN.

The SEC network itself(via Fla President Bernie Machen in the same article) will likely bring in $360mil/yr ONLY inside our footprint.... And our tier 1 and 2 rights still have to go up as well...

It should help us cash wise, but I don't know how it will affect our product. Losing a sure win sucks if we go to nine games, not to mention an extra league road game every other year.
