Offense having trouble tonight, they really need to get their heads on straight. Very sloppy so far all around.

The Jackson State game was sloppy too. We need Bibby and Rickea to step up more offensively, Myah Taylor has to give us a little more too. This is our 1st real test of the season. As a team we are shooting 35% from the floor and 25% from 3 point... that's not good

We are going to struggle offensively against some scrappy defensive teams.

We are really athletic but we don?t have a lot of players that are great as passing or moving without the ball - mostly because they are young and most were ball dominant in HS

We struggled with Marquette last year as well. They're a good team. Vic will use this to light a fire under their asses

Got the W. This is one of the few challenges we'll have before conference play, so it's good we won on the road, but we'll need to tighten up before SEC play

Girls win 74-68. Game stats, FG% us 25 for 70, 35%; MU 25 for 53, 49%. Vic not going to be happy with Rebounding either. But 14 steals with 32 points off T/Os and going 20-23 at the line does help

Marquette. 68

Jordan Danberry and Rickea Jackson, both...came up big during the final minutes. Jessika Carter did an outstanding job of rebounding during the game as a whole. Yemiyah Morris could help this team's rebounding a lot as well. My opinion, Coach Schaefer would be well served to find a way to utilize Morris more. Much rebounding and shot blocking/shot altering ability ron the bench with Morris and Promise Taylor.

We were on the road. Young team. Still have a coach assembling a puzzle. We are a top tier team but we will have struggles. A great coach figures out how to win while putting pressure on key players in tough situations to make them better later. That’s a true coach, you can’t play 5-6 and win tonight if you expect great play from 8-9 players later in the year. Teachable moments while instilling confidence but also giving him something to light into several players in practice. He’s coaching a team not 5-6 players.

Good win on the road. This team will improve as the season rolls along. Young team got tested on the road, it?s early and this will help them gain a little confidence. It also shows Vic what he will work on in practices correcting mistakes. Road games are always tougher, again good win!

Very solid play all around the last few minutes, we need to put forth that effort the majority of the game. This was a good learning experience on the road.

Isn’t it great to have a coach teaching and expecting players to make plays? This is the attitude I feel we are missing in football.

Marq. shot the light out from 3. Not sure if that is typical for them but that is what kept them in the game. We played OK, didn't shoot it well. We got beat on back door and lost who we were guarding a lot. Got to get that fixed. Our chemistry and rotation isn't there yet but expected being so young and inexperienced.

Got to fix a few things and gel some more before SEC starts. We'll be OK. Gonna be hard to win SEC this year though.

This was a good test. We are a team that has a lot of talent but hasn't played together, is inexperienced, and hasn't been challenged until tonight. This will be a learning year as they develop chemistry, but they gutted it out when they needed to.

And we had a coach who let them in an uncomfortable position to give them opportunities that he will teach from. Very impressive coach! Can’t win March if you don’t teach in November and December. We will have growing pains but the chemistry will be there in the end

Yup. This team is still finding its way. Roles have not been established, and chemistry is a work in progress. Freshmen are expected to immediately contribute. They will figure out how to play together and be a much different team at the end of the year.

Coach Schaefer commented after the Jackson State game about the team needing more rebounding help.

The other two post players (Morris 6-6 and Taylor 6-5) can help this team with rebounding. Possibly find a way to utilize more of this size into the rotation. Double post look is an option. Remember the coaching staff experimenting with this a fairly good bit during the preseason.

Stanford will be a good barometer. They returned all but one starter but gave no true post player. Will be a good early matchup.

Speaking of rebounds....
Career high 21 rebounds for Jessika Carter (14 points, 21 rebounds, 2 blocks). Just her second season at Miss. State. She backed up Teaira last season as a freshman. She's playing very well this season, and like the others .. she"s still young herself, and continuing to learn, get better as well. My opinion, Coach Harris' is doing an outstanding job with this young lady, and she's developing fairly quickly as a player.

Remember Coach Schaefer comparing Carter to former South Carolina standout A'ja Wilson...in style of play.

Center position at Miss. State is VERY talented...DEEP. Couldn't go wrong with any of the 3 options as starters. I'm very much confident in all 3....though Promise Taylor still working herself back from surgery.

Carter was slipped up on everyone. All expected big problems down load after T left. Carter is poised to have a monster career. We just reloading. Carter has some things she can potentially do better than T earlier. Already more polished than T as a soph.

Biggest thing our team needs is time together to get some chemistry and figure out the right rotations. Normal things with a new team.

Vic still the man.
