Serious question, when was the last year we had a good football team/season and a good basketball team/season in the same year? Last year does not count because football was disappointing even though we went 8-5

Yes he will, best defender on the team, a scorer and a leader.. But I do like to see Molinar and DJ getting better and gaining confidence. It will help later against better teams. Also good to get a win with Carter only scoring 6

This team has a chance to make some noise this year. Good guard play with some depth especially getting Spoon back.
Best depth we’ve had in a while, play good defense also.

Why would last year not count?

Because while the record was above our historical average it was an utter disappointment. My question should have been when was the last time positive expectations for both teams were met in the same school year?

Hope Jonathan Abrams wasn't there for his sake. Him bitch slapping AJ in the Egg Bowl last year pretty much makes Abrams one of my all time favorites.

Very rarely does MSU football seem to come through for us and do something that we really want. But Abrams made it happen for me with that moment.

We may not be that great of an offensive team, but we look elite defensively.

NCMSTFAN
11-15-2019, 08:35 AM
Yes we are very good defensively right now. All the guys play hard defensively but DJ Stewart, Molinar and Ado in particular play really well, and adding Weatherspoon back will make us even better on that end. We still have work to do on offense, losing Q, Peters and Holman took a lot of scoring away from last years team. But again, we still have Nick coming back who will help a lot on offense and DJ and Molinar are coming into their own as well on that end. We have to remember, other than Carter, we have no other experienced guards with Nick being out, but the offense will come, Woodard and especially Perry can both put up a lot of points, but it starts with guard play and our guards will continue getting better.

Ado knows his role, he will never be a high level scorer, but what he does best is defends hard, sets good screens and block shots, those things don't show up in the stats (other than blocks). He is averaging 3.7 blocks a game which has him tied for 13th best in the nation with a few guys, he isn't Jarvis Varnado but he can hold his own with the best back there. Yes it is still early but its good to have that rim protector in the back who can clean things up like Ado. I would like to see him become a little more productive on the offensive end still.

Our best on the ball defender right now is DJ Stewart, he is long and very active. He disrupts a lot of guys, last night was my first time getting a chance to watch him other than seeing highlights of him and a little bit of the Sam Houston game. He can score some too and is very athletic, I like the direction he has a potential to go. The more he continues to play, the better he will continue to get. We are still a work in progress but these early games will help. We have to realize we are still very young, our only experienced guy out there is Carter. As good as Perry is and will be, he is only a Sophomore, same with Woodard. DJ and Molinar are both Freshman, Feazell has been around but hasn't played a lot and Ado isn't a scorer so we have a young team who will continue to grow.

Yes getting Nick back is going to be YUGE...
will he be rusty, yes he will have live Game rust , but he hasn’t been injured.. that’s a huge difference.

The one missing ingredient with this team is another outside shooter.
If Woodard or DJ can start knocking down outside shoots with a little consistency that’s going to be big.

Defense is much better and very good. , we don’t get caught in ball screen mismatches . We are much more athletic on defense. Molinar plays excellent defense for a true freshman . DJ is crazy athletic as well he just needs the game to slow down a little and it will the more PT he gets

It was very important to get a win when Tyson isn’t scoring a lot . And there will be other games when we will have to lean on other guys to make shots.

We did last night what we have to do every game and that’s get Perry involved early scoring so he stays engaged In the game
Dude is a double double every night

And I think when we get Nick back we are going to get up and down the court and push the ball after a missed shot. We showed that a little last night.. We are pretty good in transition offense , we get bogged down in the half court right now esp with Nick out and lack of outside shooting..

Again we will have a few early hiccups , just don’t need to lose to a really bad team in the non conference

It’s going to be a fun year, get the **** to the hump and support this team..

spoon isn't going to be a 20-8-8 guy. Matter of fact he won't avg 20 or 8 or 8, much less all of them at the same time not even close. That's either extreme hyperbole, or you really have never watched him play. With that said, he's a really good player that instantly makes us better, obviously.

NCMSTFAN
11-15-2019, 01:02 PM
Yeah 20-8-8 is pretty much unheard of in college basketball, that's nearly a triple double average which doesn't happen. However, he will be a huge piece to get back, he has averaged about 10 ppg his career here and that was playing along with ball dominant players like Q and Lamar. He can easily raise his average to about 15 ppg with this team.

He could get to 15. That's doable. But I still don't expect that big of a jump, but certainly possible. But, he's avg basically 2.5 reb and 2 assists per game for his career, and he's not going to double that, much less triple or more.

I would actually expect 13 to 15 ppg from him on this team with the inexperienced guards we have. I'm pretty positive if he wasn't sitting now, he would be around that range with Q and Lamar gone. It may take him a few games to get going once he returns because he hasn't been out there but I'm confident he will be ok. As good as Carter is and has been, he's actually more of a spot up shooter and a guy that is best coming off screens and shooting the 3 ball. He's not a guy that can really blow by you and manufacture points, he has been that so far for us because he's had to. But Nick on the other hand can do that, he will go by you and can finish in a crowd. He's more tough nosed than Carter, and that's taking nothing away from Carter.

Not clear enough. Look I am not going to say he can only be a 13-15 guy. I am not going to put a limitation on Nick. He has something to prove. Hope he dominates every aspect of the game and works into the 1st round of the draft.
