Two is the number this year.

Also, interesting article on Gaston: https://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/story/_/id/17549517/freshman-deyona-gaston-tops-espnw-hoopgurlz-watch-list-2020-women-basketball-recruiting-class

Just saw a crawler on ESPN2 that said OM has the highest ranked women's basketball recruit class in the SEC; 9th in the nation. Is that correct or did they get us confused?

Probably accurate. They've got two 5-star players in the class

Vic said yesterday we had one more Scholly but wouldn't sign just anybody. Said he would hold it for next year only looks for recruits that fit his style and attitude. Vic likes Alpha type players.

Going into her 9th grade season (this, before series of injuries) , Gaston was mentioned by ESPN Hoopgurlz as the top recruit in the ESPN class of 2020. Was VERY highly thought of.

She's very athletic, a very skilled player. Tremendous vertical leaper. Wouldn't be surprised to hear of her dunking, can flat get up off the floor. Mentioned as having high basketball smarts.

Also, read where she recently scored 28 points in a game for her high school team Pearland HS).

Gaston was a top 20 recruit before she got injured and had to drop out of the AAU circuit for a little while. Same thing happened to Mingo-Young who was also a top 20 recruit at one point. Vic is can evaluate talent. He had already offered Matharu before she was ever ranked as a top 25 recruit.

At least one of the services had her as the number one player in the class when she was a freshman. Her knee injury required her to sit as a sophomore and dragged her as a junior. I?ll be interested to see how she improves. Coach Schaefer is amassing some long, athletic players.

Very interesting the Rickea Jackson and Madison Hayes played on the USA team this past summer that won Gold. They will have instant chemistry together. Vic will have his hands full trying to figure out who to play next season, with the young girls on the team now who have all shown signs, plus adding these two who were both heavily recruited, we will have a deep roster. Good problem to have

Ole Miss Men's and women's basketball signed some pretty high recruits this year...…. I wonder why? They have never really been known as basketball schools, the men also signed 2 top 100 players and one of them was their highest rated player ever. No, I'm not accusing them of doing anything wrong, just curious as to how they come out of nowhere and get these fairly high basketball recruits.

It happens. People were freaking out because Geno only signed 1 player last year, and she was a top 30 recruit. Basketball recruiting is weird because you may only sign 1-2 players a year, so the rankings are really skewed.

Yeah it?s still difficult to see who is going to emerge as the core rotation of 8-9 players. The only certainty to date seems to be C Bibby and J Danberry. M Taylor is going to have her hands full fighting off A Matharu as Matharu gains experience. Likewise J Mingo-Young is fighting for significant time. Both freshmen can score on all three levels and play physical defense.
