Gonna be tough when he gets 2 fouls in the first 3 minutes

Yea he needs to work on his overall control. Sloppy charge, shooting a quick 3, getting stripped under the basket pretty easily. Was hoping some of that stuff would be better overall in year two.

Perry's done nothing but foul and throw up 26 footers

Which may make him one of the more productive players this half

How do Woodard and especially Perry play this bad. They are so freaking talented, it would seem like a start to the season like this couldn't happen for them.

To be fair to Rick Ray, I don't think we ever turned the ball over 16 times in a half. Ugly.

This game should answer any and all questions about why attendance is so bad at men’s games. When you play like you don’t care, the fans have no reason to care as well.

Someone make sure JoMo gets this post as well.

Molinar - Sloppy ball handling
Perry - Complete non factor
Woodard - Lazy with the ball
Carter - Only bright spot
Ado - Weak but plays hard

None of them can stay in front of their man on defense. One dribble drive gets them right past us.

Again we are getting out hustled.

If we play with that level of intensity and effort for an entire game, we can be good.

Exactly. Howland needs to start to move past this type of game though. That is the second game in a row where Perry didn't score for the first 30 minutes of gametime. Got to figure out a new identity cause is Carter ever goes cold, we wouldn't have score 15 pts in the 1st half.

I'll take an ugly win over a loss... this will be a teachable moment for Howland to the young Gaurds.. right now we only have 1 experienced SEC guard but games like this will help Molinar and DJ....

I just want to say, this team could be really damn good, when they figure it out. If they put in the hard work now, they will be a very tough out. But, if they play like this against anyone in the SEC or tourney, they lose by 20. Got to get mentally ready to attack from the opening tip every game. They only get so many of these games to make their case to the pro scouts and I want everyone of them to become ballers.

Hoopsdawg, I agree but 40 minutes in one game at the Division 1 level is hard. No matter the opponent. You cant take off on Defense, plus he runs the point alot and is our best shooter... that's a recipe for disaster moving forward.. he will be worn out at the end of close games... he needs some rest. That being said we needed him all 40 minutes tonight

In college basketball guard play wins championships, we have 2 young guards getting alot of minutes. I think the more they play the better they get, and Nick will be back in 8 games too. We still have a chance to have a good season.

11-08-2019, 10:41 PM
I lucked into courtside seats tonight. I saw frustration, but never desperation. I think the thing that I like most was that during crunch time, every single player had at least one moment where they made the key shot/defensive stand/grab the loose ball. Tyson kept us in the game, but the last five minutes was a genuine team effort.

Team of that magnitude? Well they did win 21 games last year. And we are very young at the guard positions... no excuses though, we shouldn't have been down by that many but we lost 3 starting SEC guards in Q, Lamar and Nick until his return. Basketball is a game of runs and the talent level between a 2 or 3 star player vs 4 or 5 isnt that far off like a sport like football, that's why we see the upsets in the tournament yearly... yes we have alot of work to do but at the end of the day we found a way to win. Gotta move on to the next

I'll add this. Sam Houston State was picked by many to finish 1st or 2nd in the Southland. So they very well could be a team on our schedule that's in the NCAA Tournament.

According to Team Rankings, they've got a 28% chance to win their conference tournament. That's more than double the next team behind them. So yes a lower opponent, but one that many are picking to win their conference and go dancing.

The New Orleans team we play next weekend is the team picked to challenge SHSU for the Southland. So there's a very high chance one of them will represent the Southland in the NCAA Tournament and the other will finish 2nd.

Add to that Radford who is predicted to win the Big South, New Mexico State who is projected to run away with the WAC, and La Tech projected 2nd in CUSA. So don't be surprised if 3 or 4 of our non conference opponents win their conference. 3 of them are projected to do that and 2 more are projected to finish 2. So don't sleep on our non conference schedule. Not a ton of big names but a lot of teams you may see on lines 13-15 come tournament time.

DJ Stewart is going to be a star in this league; been saying that since we recruited him. He stepped up big early in his career.

I was at high school playoff game and listened to on radio. Hard to listen to for first 30 minutes but they really turned it on and showed some tourney type clutch play. We are really talented but have to learn to play with more grit and toughness. Sam HSt. is a solid team that plays smart and tough.

Perry has got to play better to start games. Others are pressing too much early.

ULaLa is battling for their conference and was expected to compete for it. People didn’t like that they played us semi-close. That’s cause no one gives a damn about a non power conference champion. Again. It’s being the tallest short guy. If they start knocking off some top 100 rpi or net teams then we’ll talk. Until then we’re out here twiddling our thumbs and looking undisciplined to start the season. If we were a one and done program that’s one thing. We’re a 4-year team and starting out flat with no chemistry. Just out talent opponents at the end. That’s not what we should be at this stage with Howland. I’m happy for the wins but we do need to get better overall otherwise sec play won’t be so kind. We won’t out talent anyone there and in fact will be our talented by some. So it’s concerning seeing the lack of discipline early. It needs to sort itself out and hopefully it does. I’d love another tournament appearance and once we’re in, anything can happen.
