According to this report his buyout for a school to hire him away is the remaining BASE salary or around $2MIL.

hell, waive the buyout and offer to pay $500k of his salary for the first two years. That's still cheaper than firing him.

Shit even $1M/yr for two years.

I believe the answer to that is sort of. As in we’ll fire him if he goes 4-8 and Rutgers doesn’t hire him.

If he leaves, then he doesn?t get the remaining money on his contract. Even if he is fired, there are likely offsets built into his contract that lowers what Mississippi State will owe him when he takes on another head coaching job.
