I had Kelly on both my fb teams for the second half. I repeat it doesn't look good for Boston.

Go cards mother****ers

Did you guys know the compensation pick the Cards got for losing Pujols was/is Wacha? They saved $200 mill AND got a top 3 "young gun". Talk about a brilliant move by the Cards.

They drafted Wacha. Every team ahead of them had the opportunity to draft him first. Whoever is running the Cards is a ****ing genius.

Leadoff triple is what we need. A couple of patented Kelly walks and an extra base hit should put the Sox on top

Why was it obstruction when the runner was off the baseline?

Because Middlebrooks intentionally tripped him

Debatable.

Crazy ending. Middlebrooks trips Craig (who knows if intentionally) and obstruction is called. Craig scores easy if he doesn't trip. That being said, Craig wasn't in baseline so is that correct call?

How do you know that? The initial baseline when standing on 3rd, was a direct line to home. Craig then initially takes 2 steps back toward 2nd, and then turned toward home over Middlebrooks. If we are going to look at the rules and interpret them correctly, If anything it appreared that he made a move back toward 2nd base, and thus would have to go back and touch 3rd. He was out of the baseline if he was heading home, after his initial move back toward 2nd. I didnt make up the baserunning rules. Should have been out, by running out of base line. Obstruction is a stretch. Could have been Out of base line as well. Let them play.

They just said intent does not matter. Tough way to end a game but no reason for Salty to make that throw. Dumb dumb dumb decision

He also was not "off the baseline" . He had started off the inside of the bag, well within the baseline

He didn't take steps back toward second. He turned to look. His foot was right by the bag. Also, while beginning his run toward the plate he was within the dirt, not on the grass. If you watch the replay, you'll see that his head was turned looking for the ball as he started running. His head was not turned to where he could see where Middlebrooks was while starting towards the plate. So implying he was trying to run into him is incorrect

So his initial steps off of 3rd weren't in the direction of 2nd base? Were you even watching the game? If you were you'd know his first movement off of 3rd base was in the direction of 2nd base, and then he turned toward home. Had he gone directly from 3rd to home, there wouldn't have been any player in the way.

And the dirt has nothing to do with baseline. The baseline in that any case other than a batted ball from home plate, is determined by the player and the straight line from said player to either base. His initial steps changed the baseline and thus interferencee shouldn't have been called, since he altered the baseline to his own detriment.

Yes I was watching and again, he took no steps toward second. He slid, stood up, turned to look then started home. You are right in that the runner determines his own baseline. That however, goes against your original argument of him being "out of the baseline". The dirt does not determine the baseline, that is correct also, but as long as a base runner is within the dirt on the baselines going to home or first, you're not going to find an ump that would call him "out of the baseline"
