" You are not inheriting a train wreck or a dire situation, but you are inheriting a train that is running without the benefit of tracks and one demanding some urgency, i.e., a rudderless vessel desperately needing a strong hand to steer and guide her. She?s a grand old girl, but she's off on a dirt road and badly needs some immediate fine-tuning, an oil change and possibly a new direction in some of the personnel charged with keeping her going."

That's rambling and incoherent and chucks made the world a dumber place for spewing that.

He could have just said, "We're a complete and total cluster17."

And he would've been right!

The funny thing is I have no idea if he's talking about their football program, the baseball program, the mascot, or the University.

He thinks he is William Faulkner but he needs to take a few commas out.

So the train doesn't have tracks to run on, but it has a rudder like a ship? And the train runs on a dirt road? But the train needs an oil change? Oh, never mind.

They love them some Faulkner. He’s the most overrated writer of the 20th century. By a lot. He writes like someone who’s not educated but wants to sound like they are, so he went to the dictionary and just strung polysyllabic words together that read like gobbledygook. And God forbid he ever learn to use punctuation.

Steinbeck. There’s your man....

Oh, and Chuck, I don’t know how much you know about trains, but a train without tracks is in dire 17in straights, bro.

If one was on, say a train, and it had come off it's tracks....I'm thinking that the wreck has already happened and the situation is what we might call 'dire'. Urgency would be the order of the moment.

If one was on, say a boat, and lets add the fact that it had no rudder. Steering might be an issue, strength of hand notwithstanding. Now, lets keep going and lets say the grand old girl with no rudder found itself on a dirt road. And the strong hand attempting to steer the rudderless vessel asks his 1st mate "what do we need?" If Gilligan were to respond with "some immediate fine tuning and and oil change" the new direction in some of the personnel keeping her going would be a pretty good idea.
