When is national signing date? I thought Feb 29, 2020 was the day. I didn't think the early signing period pertains to women's basketball.

Yes it does pertain to women. That's not just a basketball day either. It's pretty much and all spirts signing day. Then there is a spring date as well. In April

I have no input other than to say Treasure Hunt sounds like a porn star.

I hate that I?m allowing myself hope that this may actually happen. Pulling S Andrews from the state of Texas would be quite an accomplishment. Have you heard anything on Cardoso? Regardless thank you for the update.

Vic got to two national titles with under recruited players. Now we are starting to recruit really well. Watch out.

10-01-2019, 09:46 PM
Vic's biggest adjustment is going to have to be use of his bench. Vic doesn't like to use his bench much but with the talent he's accumulating he's not going to have a choice. All of these good players aren't going to come here & be satisfied sitting on the bench waiting they're turn. With the way he likes to press it would seem to be a no brainer to go deeper into the bench.

This is how you recruit it you want to win a NC. You recruit top talent and let the players battle it out in practice for minutes. The ones that don't get the minutes they want will transfer, and you wish them well.

This is true but its the price you pay for being a top 5 school the last few years. Fans of other schools are starting to get pissed at Vic cause he comes to their state and cherry picks. We will never have another Vic in any sport!

I do too...It just occurred to me that in order for him to go to A&M, Bdork would have to hire him....Surely he knows enough about him not to want to work for him..

ESPN article about where they think the top unsigned women's college basketball recruits (ESPN Top 10 high school) for the class of 2020 will sign. They have Kamilla Cardoso signing with Miss. State. Indicated that she still needs a test score. Also, indicated that there are prospects that emerge once every so often with Cardoso's skill set, including emphasizing her being more skilled than Teaira McCowan was in high school.

They went with Baylor for Sarah Andrews. Though, been hearing Miss. State feels good about Andrews, and the way her official visit went.

If we unfortunately lose Vic, I hope we make every effort to give the job to Johnnie Harris and eventually we can hire Blair after several years.

He also has his daughter on staff of her alma mater. Not sure what would win out, going back to coach at his alma mater or staying where he has built his own program and where he coached his daughter to a National Title runner up. By the time A&M has a vacancy, he might have a National Title and statue at MSU.

I think as more time goes on, the more State becomes his program. It's basically his creation at this point, and he has built it into what it is with the fans. That would be hard to leave I imagine. I think he might have also had some bulldog in him a little bit because of his close friendship with Jackie Sherrill. He fits in perfectly with our fans.

I would be pretty surprised if Schaefer leaves for A&M. There's nothing he can do there he hasn't already done here, and this program is his and his alone. Sure, A&M is his alma mater and he's spent a good bit of time there, but next year will be his 8th at State.

It's kind of like Dabo and Bama. Sure, he could go back to Bama at some point, but I'd be pretty surprised if he did. He has more ties to Clemson now than he ever did Bama.

I guess with Vic the big difference is that he has created the program into a NC contender that had already won 2 SEC titles. I believe Mullen left because he wanted to go to a program where he thought he had a chance to win a NC. I think that after Mullen couldn't win a NC with Dak, he was over it. I also believe Vic fits into Mississippi State. He's exactly the type of coach that fits into the State identity, which is why the fans love him.

Agreed. When I read on this board that Phil Fulmer had likely called Coach Vic about the Tennessee job, I wasn't worried about him leaving for Knoxville. I do think that the boorish way in which those fans treated Coach Warlick has brought that job's desirability down some. In fact, I saw a number of head coaches at smaller D1 programs who went on Twitter and said exactly that.

The job that I was more worried about him leaving for would have been to become WNBA Commissioner. I don't know if Adam Silver actually called him about it, but as a longtime Mystics fan who mostly watches women's college basketball these days, I would have certainly expected him to.

I feel that what the WNBA needs is someone who is a great ambassador for the game of women's basketball and can get up in front of a group of people and persuade them to try coming to games. As far as I can tell, Coach Vic is the best in the business at this, and attendance at the Hump speaks for itself. Additionally, members of the national sports media who understand this (i.e. Paul Feinbaum) like having him on their shows because he's just so good at what he does.

Instead, the WNBA has gotten a Fortune 500 Company leader who will know how to get up in front of potential corporate sponsors and try to get them to contribute, which is good. But I don't know what her plan is for getting fans into the stands. I do think that many of those potential sponsors will say "Well, get the fans in the stands, and then we'll talk about jumping onboard."

Anyway, if I were still as into the Mystics as I once was and Adam Silver's first two phone calls weren't to Coach Staley and Coach Vic just on principle, I'd be disappointed.

It's not really about you not caring about WBB, it's that you feel you have to join a discussion about WBB to tell us that you don't care about it. You assume all of us care what you like and don't like but in reality we really don't. So with that being said, you are in fact just an attention whore trying to get a rise out of everybody. You go around assuming that you are the sports standard and that anyone that deviates from what YOU like is somehow beneath you. Well here is another reality check..You are NOT THE STANDARD. People can like whatever the hell they want to like. I like MBB too but the WBB team has been a better product in the last 5 years. There is no disputing that.

While I support the women's team 100%, this is not accurate. We lose money, and a lot of it on women's hoops. WHich I'm ok with, due to the high quality product Vic puts on the floor...... We actually make money on men's basketball. And yes, I recognize our women did probably outdraw the men in actual attendance

I would guess the ticket prices are not close to equal. I believe we pay Vic and the coaching staff not too far off what Howland and his coaches get. So the bottom line is the Men probably are more profitable but who knows by how much.

Also, Coach Johnnie Harris has been huge for the program. She was with Coach Schaefer over at Texas A&M as well. Much credit to Coach Harris' contribution as an assistant (Associate Head Coach) at Miss State.

While at Miss. State..she has helped develop really good, outstanding post players such as
- Teaira McCowan- 1st Team All-American
- Martha Alwal- 1st Team All-SEC
- Chinwe Okorie- listed 6th in career field goal percentage at 52.1%.

Also, Alwal led the SEC in blocked shots for 4 straight seasons, and was an SEC Co-Defensive player of the year

Tickets cost more and the entire lower level you have to pay a seat license fee just to get the tickets for men's hoops. And it's not probably, we lose a lot in women's hoops and make money in men's.

I wonder how much it was worth going to two straight National Title games? Those years might have been more profitable for the Women if you take that into account. The win over UConn was probably worth a couple Million by itself.

Edited to add: I am talking about Marketing worth. I have seen things like Bama winning a National Title being worth $50 or so Million in marketing.

Dawg2003

Even UConn does not make a profit in women's hoops. I don't know of any school that does actually. They may not make money, but the women offer other things. They give us some pride and morale, which has been sorely lacking in our overall history in every sport except baseball. I don't think you can put a price tag on that.

According to an article, that according to the Department Of Education....the women's college basketball programs in the seven top conferences (Pac-12, ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big 10, AAC, and Big East) collectively reported $170.5 million in revenue for 2015-16.

The University Of Connecticut women's program (UConn) reported 8.9 million for that same year. Also, saw (another write up) where Stanford women, fairly recently had a 3 year average if 18.6 million. Tripple that of it's men's basketball program.

I can't find the article but it was talking about Nick Saban's salary and how successful the football team is in driving applications to the university along with donation increases. Having video of us beating UConn playing almost every March is extremely valuable Advertising for MSU.
