Reggie Perry getting much preseason buzz

Preseason All-American by Lindy's, Street and Smith, and Athlon Sports publications.
- Lindy's (1st Team AA) (SEC Player Of The Year)
- Street and Smith (2nd Team AA)
- Athlon Sports (3rd Team AA)

Also, Perry was selected MVP of the USA's FIBA Under 19 World Cup team as he helped lead them to winning the championship.

That's a lot to live up to. Not saying he won't, but with our fan base lately I worry that he'll be getting bashed after posting his 15th straight double double because he missed a free throw.

Not bad for the guy who got MVP honors at the U19 FIBA World Cup!

Perry?s progress last season was rare. He became a dominant force by the end of the year. Hopefully everyone else has progressed and we get to watch a special season.

He really showed out this summer. I hope that translates to his play this year along with accomplishing some team goals. I would love to go back to the Dance this year. I doubt he stays for his junior year so we need to make some noise this year. Losing Q will be tough to overcome but I think this team could actually be better than last year with the returning guys. It would help to get Nick back and no injuries.

Did Moultrie make any AA teams? He is the only other guy I can think of.

It seems like Dontae got hot later in the year. I think he was even coming off the bench for a while. He is still the best physically gifted basketball player I have seen in college. I saw him at Northeast and he might as well have been playing 7th graders.

Dontae was a first round draft pick so surprised he didn't make an All America team. He wasn't a preseason pick because he only played one year so he had 0 hype coming in. Boy he was fun to watch though.

Gordon and Rhodes were a fun combo to watch too. Still remember the helicopter pass - dunk.

No doubt my favorite State teams were 02, 04, and 08.

02: Zimmerman, Bowers, Austin, Patterson, Ignerski, Gholar; the rebirth of State as a basketball force
04: Roberts, Bowers, Frazier, Power, Vincent, Ervin as a freshman; probably the toughest State team ever, truly could have won it all
08: Rhodes, Gordon, Stewart, Hansbrough, Varnado, Turner; just a fun team

2004 team won the SEC title, #2 seed in the NCAA Tourney and was undefeated on the road. But ran into a red hot Xavier team in the 2nd round and was upset. Loved watching them play. Timmy B was a beast in Tuscaloosa

He was drafted that high because of his potential. He didn't play the entire year at the same level as he did at the end of the year. He was on fire starting with the SEC tournament through the end of the year. Watching him at Northeast was like watching a highlight tape. Not only was he a dunk machine but he would hit jumpers all day long. He also seemed like a fun loving dude. I think Richard Williams stayed on him about his defense though.

I can agree with this...guy was a gifted athlete. He and Len Bias are a couple of the biggest "could have beens" in my adult lifetime.

As a side note, I had a chance to visit with Dontae at the Hump a couple years ago when we honored that final four team. He looked in better shape then than he did during his playing days...

Len Bias may be the biggest "what if" in basketball history. He could've continued the Celtics dynasty for years.

I think Dontae had ankle surgery and just never looked the same. Plenty of rumors about how bad his practice habits were. His talent got him to the NBA but not everyone can be Allen Iverson (Practice?)

Be careful. You're going to awaken the Stansbury haters if you keep talking like that.
