Curious... do you extend this theory to say, auburn? Auburn's 4-year avg is 10th.

I think we win this week, but I'll be pretty surprised if it's over at halftime

Could you list Tennessee's recruiting ranking versus the recruiting ranking of Georgia State?

I think we win, but there is a reason you have to play the game.

TN has a culture problem and has been a dumpster fire for years now. Not a relevant comparison at all. I commend you on your pessimism though. Top notch!

Tennesse's a dumpster fire. They are coached by a guy way over his head.

I'm not pessimistic at all. I'm optimistic. I'm just saying recruiting rankings don't always tell the tale. I think we win. But I think we better show up and play. Remember South Alabama just a few years back. Regardless of recruiting ranking, the ball is kicked off to start the game with a 0-0 score. I think we should handle Kansas State. If we play like we are capable, we win easily. But that is never a given for any team.

We should win, but our average recruiting ranking doesn't reflect the fact that we are extremely thin and young at DT because of unbalanced recruiting classes, suspensions, and Simmons leaving early. If we lose, it will be because we get beat at one position group badly enough that it makes it hard for us to defend at all.

I also think once you get outside of the top 30 or maybe 40, rankings are basically meaningless and just reflect where a school is "expected" to recruit with some slight modifications based on grabbing a highly rated recruit every once in a while. So Whether KSU was 40th or 70th, I'm no sure that gives you a lot of information other than they are outside of that tier that is expected to recruit top 30ish and didn't grab any high profile recruits to change the perception.

Of course we have to show up to play. Everyone does, even Alabama.

Just trying to show a little confidence around here to combat the "what's gonna go wrong" attitude that most state people are so accustomed to.

We should win, but our average recruiting ranking doesn't reflect the fact... unbalanced recruiting classes

I think this is the biggest flaw in traditional class rankings; it doesn't take into account roster needs. OM got more 4* WRs than they needed, but they should have traded some for mid-high 3 star front 7 defensive guys. But the class rankings just see 4 stars. It was a problem for LSU recently too, Miles had a few classes were he just ignored OL. They're still really thin there. But if he traded some of his DBs an WRs for 3 star OL the overall class ranking would tank, despite him having the better overall team.

And of course, it's really hard to know how well the needs are being addressed unless you're really close to the program. Moorhead did a good job last year for us, but did Gus? Did Stoops? Probably none of us here can answer that, we'll find out in 4 years

This game is going to be closer than we’d like. Recruiting rankings are also fairly bogus as far as team rankings go.

We also had a QB problem, a retarded pretty boy for a DC and Dan wore shorts.

I think of recruiting rankings as kind of like in sections of increasing win %. If you consistently have a class ranked 1-5 then you have a greater chance of just out talenting the other team unless you run into another top 5 team. Of course like someone else said, it matters if the classes are balanced also. If you get a 5 star QB every year that pulls your ranking from 30 to 20 then that is skewing the class rankings especially when only one QB can play anyway.

I think it kind of goes like: 1-5 in one section, 6-15 in another section, 16-30 in the next, 30-60 in the next, then after 60 it is a crap shoot. So for us being around the 24 average and KSU around 60, we just have a lot more leeway to get by. So to win over someone like AU with a 10 ranking, we have to play very good football and possibly get some turnovers. To beat Bama, we have to play almost perfect football along with getting turnovers.

Of course if KSU is getting under recruited guys like we did for a while then the rankings aren't accurate anyway.

Yet another reason why recruiting rankings only tell a part of the story. Their coaching is very good. I'm not one of those who think KSU should keep this close, but recruiting rankings just dont account for enough. They are running under a new system like we did last year. A big factor will be winning the turnover battle. If both teams play clean and dont turn it over, we may see a low scoring game. We have been very good at protecting the ball under JoeMo and our pass defense has been pretty opportunistic.

Their run game doesnt scare me. Their play calling though, could exploit weaknesses in our personnel if they are paying attention. Shoop may have to take some chances this game that he didnt have to in the ULL or USM games.

Which proves my point that there are many other factors besides recruiting rankings.

That's true but none of the above factors into this game. Solid head coach, DC and a QB that's far above previous expectations.

I just pray that Joe doesn't wear shorts.**

Yes. We recruit better! They don’t have speed! We have the #1 defense in the country!

But they do have an Outback Bowl trophy.

Recruiting rankings only matter when in our favor. We should beat TAM 3 out of 4 years, AU & LSU every other year at worst.

Juco kids are almost never ranked appropriately. There's no telling where KSU talent should be ranked. If I had to guess, I'd say 35-45, would be a lot more accurate.

KSU probably suffers a little like we do with recruiting rankings. Many of our players are underrated coming out of high school and juco. If we play like we are capable of playing, we should win this game. If our guys come out and half-ass their way through, we'll lose.
