On days like today for a team like ours you survive. Neutral site against a much improve team with nothing to lose. Offense played well and defense didn't. We were up by 21 at one point and had a couple weird things happen like the missed chip shot FG by the backup kicker and the kicked punt. But we won.

Tennessee looks putrid. Arkansas struggling with Portland State. Kentucky struggled with Toledo. OM lost to Memphis. We should beat all of those teams from what I've seen.

nah, most of this board didn't want Pruitt. Sometimes you can just tell by an interview that a guy can't coach.

The way I remember it:

We were looking for a coach and a lot of people were saying that Pruitt was the top candidate at the time. And I think a lot of people were fine with that because most of the posters figured he could recruit. But then Joe emerged and I think it shifted at that point.

But the way I always took it was "which one of these possible options would you prefer as head coach" more than "LET'S GET PRUITT NO MATTER WHAT!"

Probably doensn't matter how he does at Liberty. If Tennessee can handle the baggage (and the fan base rebelled against some other coach they had all but hired ... can't remember his name), then they might get him. Hugh is a much better coach than Pruitt.

The question imo is "Is the SEC down, or is it the new NCAA practice limitations making everyone worse?". I think the answer is "yes" to both. Practice limitations still doesn't excuse OM losing to Memphis, SC losing to NC, Arky barely beating Portland State, Kentucky struggle with Toledo, or TN losing to a 2-10 FCS team. Objectively speaking the bottom of the conference sucks in ways we can't blame on NCAA limitations.

However nationally it seems as though the top teams aren't blowing out their cupcakes like they usually do. Maybe the NCAA rules mean no team can reach their potential this early in the season, and so teams with high potentials are effected relatively more than teams with low potentials?

OSU won 45-21 vs a G5 team, Iowa State took 3 OTs to beat a FCS team, Michigan state didn't blow out their G5, all of those teams are ranked. There's a few teams that looked sharp, but there's a big lack of 52-3 blowouts you expect from a ranked vs G5/FCS game.

So I'd say the whole of CFB is sloppy early/down, but the SEC dropped more than the average

Yes, the fanbase revolted against the hire of Schiano on the grounds that he was part of the Sandusky scandal.

He coached at Penn State for a few years back in the early 90s while Sandusky was the DC. Now, maybe he knew something, but no one has ever accused him of anything, and he was gone years before the McQueary incident, so it always seemed like a stretch.

Yeah, thanks for jogging my memory. That's why I added the "alleged" part.

The Penn State outrage was just a convenient cover for being pissed their first choice wasn't the tip top name they believed they were entitled to. If he'd had elite head coaching credentials with the same history that fanbase wouldn't have batted an eye.
