How does Arkansas get by scheduling no OOC P5 opponents: Portland State, Colorado State, San Jose State, and Western KY?

I think they had a P5 team cancel on them and therefore were allowed leniency. Edit to add: Michigan. See below:

Michigan cancelled on them because Michigan gonna Michigan when it comes to scheduling. (From what I gather they are worse than Tulane.)

Michigan backed out in order to play Notre Dame. Ark added Colorado State instead. Next year they play at Notre Dame and then at Texas in 2021

I get that these schedules are set years in advance in most cases, but Michigan canceled more than 3 years ago. Even if they couldn't find somebody for 2018 (because they also didn't play a P5 OOC game last year), it seems like a stretch to think they couldn't find somebody for this year.

Oh well, they lost 2 of the 4 OOC games last year anyway, so not like they're taking advantage.

Evidently the rule is you have 6 months from the notification to exhaust efforts to replace it. It doesn't surprise me they couldn't P5 OOC schedules are set up to 10 years in advance it times. to get another P5, they would have to cancel on someone else..and such forth.

Case in point look at our future schedule. the power 5 requirement is full through 2029

Heck besides these 2 years.. Ark has it's p5 through 2033..same with bama

I doubt Texas wants to come play us. But wouldn't be crazy I guess. they did just do a series with Mississippi... next up for them are LSU (19,20), Arkansas (21), Bama (22,23), Michigan (24,27), Ohio St (25,26), Georgia (28,29), Florida (30,31), Arizona St (32,33).
Notre Dame won't happen in our lifetime. They are booked out till at least 2037.

You forget they have 12 OOC slots. They’re full through 2021. ‘22-‘29 they have about 9 per booked. ‘30-‘37 they have 5 or 6 and a lot of those are part of their acc deal. They have slots.

Not sure how many P5 teams would agree to a one-off away game with no return though.

Sidenote - the 2021 schedule won't do Arkansas any favors:

Texas
@ Alabama
@ LSU
@ Georgia

That is an odd one to have on the wish list.

Notre Dame doesn't want any part of us. Our trademark physical style of play is not what they want any part of- plus our guys wouldn't be intimidated.

Best hope is to play them in a bowl game. I remember them begging someone out of the SEC to play them a few years ago and Stricklin tweeted at them that we would do a home and home. And then they wouldn't do it.

Note to the SEC Office: Never invite a school to the SEC that doesn't have any SEC culture. This is embarrassing

Missouri just needs to renew the annual rivalry with Kansas and play it at Arrowhead. Same for A&M w/ Texas (except rotate H&H). Missouri would fit in right along next to the rest of the East with the OOC rivalry weekend game. Ark & LSU could go back to being on rivalry weekend.

Lack of attendance for the game is because a Friday afternoon game against a non rival doesn’t really work for Thanksgiving weekend for them. Missouri doesn’t hate Arkansas and vice versa.

Texas - MSU brings back memories of 1991, first game JWS. I was there and it was electric as we beat nationally ranked Texas on national TV for JWS coming out party and the new MSU. Big time atmosphere and game that day. Bring out the mad dawgs.

That was actually our 2nd game under JWS. We destroyed Cal State Fullerton 47-3 the week before. That was my first State game ever and my freshman year.

That Texas game was fun - despite the fact it was 10000 degrees.
