This is really funny. What a peculiar man.

If you have a subscription, it's worth the read. Here are some excerpts though that have to with the simplicity of his offense. Pretty fascinating stuff.

I wonder if this would work in the SEC?

The people talking are his ex-QBs

The guy is pure gold.

We make fun of Ole Miss' "get open" route but that's basically what this guys whole offense appears to be at time. No arguing it works though against most defenses.

If you could combine principles from Leach, Malzahn and K Briles offenses together you'd have a nightmare for defenses to stop.

I'm still really perplexed at how you dumb it down so much and still have it be so effective with a college QB that seemingly hasn't been taught to read coverages being able to call able to call the plays half the time.

Then you go look at the track record in the NFL of his guys. I'd be equally interested to know what they all feel kept them from having any success at all in the NFL.

Wish he could've found his way to Starkville at one time.

Weren't we looking for a coach around the time he was on the market? I can't remember but I do remember wishing we'd at least interview the guy. It'd definitely be a culture shock for MSU lol.

It reminds me of Remember the Titans "I run six plays, works like novocaine...Give it time it works everytime"

It's genius in its simplicity. I think a lot of coaches feel like if they're not constantly changing things and making things more complex, they're not doing their job. Well, sometimes, especially below the pro level, it really is as simple as - look around, find the open guy, throw it to him. They're running a lot of short routes and underneath stuff, so that obviously helps. The #1 thing a QB needs is confidence in himself and his level of control on the field. If a QB feels unsure of himself in any way, it doesn't matter what you're calling, it's not going to work.

Moorehead's head just exploded reading this.

It certainly makes for an interesting conversation.

On one hand, Leach has always had good offenses, but on the other hand he's never coached in a conference worth a crap

It wouldn't be a culture shock for Leach. He coached at Kentucky and he's a big conservative.

Are you saying the Gulf South Conference in DII isn't any good?**

He has never really had to go up against solid defensive teams on a consistent basis.

This is true. I love Leach but he just hasn't faced the best defenses and I believe that's the reason he stays away from the sec.

Maybe football just isn't as complicated as some people make it out to be?

Most of Leach's schemes are based off of Lavell Edwards WCO at BYU that Norm Chow also ran as far as the passing game goes. The biggest difference is the formations and the running game system are of course spread oriented.

My thing about Leach and the thing that would concern me about him coaching at MSU:

1. He hasn't always focused enough on defense and you have to absolutely be good there to succeed in the SEC.

2. I don't believe he would place enough emphasis on recruiting and we can't afford to do that with the way Ole Miss recruits.

You may want to look at Washington State's first season at Leach before passing judgement on Moorhead.

Not my point at all.

He's the Joe Lee Dunn of offense.
