Definitely an outside guy. Needs to add some weight and strength. But can be an elite pass rusher off the edge. Has to work on defending the run, especially when you run directly at him. But has a chance to be very disruptive. Could be our next Montez Sweat type guy eventually. He has no clue what he's doing, yet he's still been impressive. As he learns the scheme and responsibilities, and the coaches teach him technique, the sky is the limit. Of everyone on the roster, he has the highest ceiling as it pertains to pass rushers off the edge.

Be nice to have him on passing downs this year. A guy that can get after the QB is invaluable

You may get your wish.

Is this a positive? Or just because we are that thin on DL?

We are not thin at DE. One of our deepest positions. We just don't have a pass rushing specialist. It's a good option to have. Marquis Haynes type.

Put him in there on 3rd and long and just tell him to get after the QB.

Maybe similar to how we used Spencer his freshman year? He was damn good at rushing the QB and hopefully he is better all around after a redshirt year.

In my mind, I was actually picturing the same guy covercorner mentioned, Haynes

Steve was on Bo this am and said Russell has looked really impressive. He adds that extra push on passing downs and can get to he QB. He goes 110% every play. It's about a 50/50 chance he'll red shirt now b/c he's bringing that edge rush Shoop needs.

If a DL is truly legit you might as well not redshirt them cause there?s almost zero chance they stay 5 years

How can you not know this .. This is why 3/4 of the board rails on you .. Kid is 235 -240 soaking wet and that’s after he got here and gained weight .. And never at any point has anyone said he will grow into a DT
If you follow the team as closely as you want everyone to believe you do post like this nuke that idea..

18-year-olds grow. Is it uncommon for des in Hs to grow into DTs? I don't think so.

ETA... I was way off on him for some reason. I thought he was 240ish in HS. He's only 230 now. It was a dumb question

He's around 235lbs now.
