If I recall correctly, Maurice Smitherman was ejected from the Outback Bowl for targeting. He missed the rest of the game and if it were a regular season game, he would have to sit out the first half of the next game.

Since this is a new season, will he have to sit out the first half of the first game?

No. He was ejected in the 1st half.

Only people Ive heard sitting out Game 1 are KT and Willie Gay. We'll see on gameday if "they" are correct
