View Full Version : Conspiracy Theory: OM at Memphis Odds

Everybody knows Memphis is a TD favorite which seems high. Go look at Memphis?s defense last year and it seems crazy high. I don?t think anybody thinks OM is good but a TD dog? The guys on the SDS podcast made a ?baseless unfair? prediction that Corrall is suspended for the opener a la Nick Fitz last year. That wouldn?t be a shocking situation imo and could that be why OM is such a big dog to a G5 team and o/u at 4.5?

I think it's more that OM's defense is just as bad or worse than Memphis' and their offense is a lot worse. Then add that it's in Memphis and I'm surprised it's just a TD. Memphis should win by at least 2 TDs.

I am not surprised at all by the line. I don't see the issue with it.

The only way OM is winning is if they feed their RBs and let them run wild. When's the last time you've seen them use that strategy?

I was considering going to a casino on the coast and placing a $100.00 bet on Ole Miss to win. However, in light of their experienced O lineman having back surgery, I will reconsider.

Depends on if Rich Rod is allowed to run his offense. I think the coordinator hires are actually pretty good if they don't have any off the field issues like what led them to UM.

I'll believe that Ole Miss will suspend a starting QB when I see it.

Agreed. When's the last time they suspended a QB, or anyone of consequence for that matter, when they didn't absolutely have to (i.e. some very public, very egregious incident)? We haven't heard a peep out of Corral this offseason so as of now it's overwhelmingly likely he's going to be on the field no matter what he's (no doubt) done.

H2H say they gonna win 7 games (bowl included). I don't see it happening. I guess it's possible but the only route there would be beating Memphis and winning a bowl game. Memphis is the biggest game on their schedule.

That’s a monster blow to them. He’s their best OL and he has a herniated disk. I don’t care how well the surgery went on the 18th and if he’s ready for the opener. He won’t make it through the season with a herniated disk. They’re another OL going down from absolute worst case scenario

Question to me is - how quickly do they fit entirely new offensive and defensive schemes? There will be some growing pains early in the season just from that alone.

I try not to let bias get in the way when thinking about Ole Miss this season, but I admit there is probably an unconscious aspect that I don't even realize.

With that bring said, I think they are winning 3 games this season. The following factors weigh into my thinking:

1. Their coach is a complete dumbass. He's clueless and it shows. "Get Open" route. Jeez..

2. Their defense was non existent last season, and despite not having the personnel for it, they are switching to a 3-4

3. They are completely redesigning their offense from Air Raid to Heavy Run Option (I assume with Rich Rod) and they are going to try this with a non running QB.

4. Speaking of the QB, he's a redshirt freshman that has never started a game there. Also, he's a loose cannon. We saw that in the Egg Bowl last year

5. I think fan support will be minimal. Their fans aren't even excited about the season, but I suppose they will still win the party!

Prediction: 3-9 ( 1-7) Wins against SELA, NMST, One of Ark, Cal, or Vandy

If Corral is suspended, that means a true freshman has to play. The line would be a lot higher than 6.5....

Everyone says that Luke is dumb, but I do not know what that statement is based upon. Other than Vandy, they did not lose to a team that they should have beaten last year and even that is arguable.

He brought in respected names as coordinators, whether they work out or not. He seems to be recruiting smarter: more linemen, closer geographically, etc. He does not look like the sharpest tool in the shed, but looks aren't always indicative.

If he had anything to do with bringing in not one but two former head coach coordinators who can and will be undermining him with their eyes on his job next year, then that only proves he's indeed a dumbass. But no, most likely he had nothing to do with those two hires.

1. If you actually look at OM's roster, Memphis being favored is not a surprise at all to me.

2. No chance the culture at OM allows Corral to be suspended for that game. Honestly, them suspending the starting QB with their culture, would be far more surprising than anything could happen in that game.

Naw that sounds about right. Y’all don’t realize how rare it is for a G5 team to be favored over an SEC team. It rarely rarely happens. Memphis gave up 32 ppg on defense and in their 2 Power5 games.... 101 points. You put Memphis defense in OM uniforms and OM’s defense is worse last year. Plus, in the last 2 years Memphis has had 4 guys drafted in the NFL draft. They don’t just replace those guys. A TD spread is huge.

Then there is the intangible..... Memphis is going to be absolutely jacked to play that game. And at home. Tough situation for the Rebs.

Yep!

I'd bet money Rich Rod winds up the head coach at OM in the next two years. A SECW team that doesn't mind cheating to get ahead, he'd be in the best job since West Virginia!

I made a post on a different thread about a player at OM that would be suspended on any other team in the country......foot stomp....cough.....but no, he will play week 1.

i think people truly do not realize how awful their roster is right now. They just lost a ton of people to the nfl off of a 5 win team. That’s not even mentioning a senior quarterback. They have recruited terribly for a while now on defense. They will have the least amount of talent defensively that we play all year long outside of Abilene Christian and maybe ULL. They may be the worst P5 team in the country this year. Memphis lost 5 games last year and are a td favorite over them.

What do you think the chance is that Ole Miss is better than people think? I think the chance is very good. But we'll see what happens. It would be awesome if they do turn out as hapless as the predictors say. But like I've said before, I'm not getting my hopes up.

What makes you think that? What on the roster makes you believe that?

Look at the pieces & parts & not just the helmet

Especially if they are truly going from a 4-3 to a 3-4. That isn't an easy transition typically and their defense was awful before switching so I guess it can't hurt.

If State were in the same position, I believe that over 90 percent of our fans would pick State to win. One reason is that we'd count on our coaches to get the most out of the little we have.

But because of attitudes like mine, the line is guaranteed to tighten. It'll probably end up being a pick em.

Agree Todd. Think it's more OM having to install BOTH a new O and a radically new D. And, they don't have the personnel designed for EITHER.

Yes! This guy gets it! Unm talent level is really really bad right now and they have no depth. Memphis offense may set records for yards and points scored(Memphis d will give up some too).

If he's been suspended, maybe it's a result of the Cohen/Bjork meeing with Sankey, because his antics in the Egg Bowl free-for-all last year. I seem to recall him pulling his helmet off and throwing punches. I doubt OM would do it on their own unless it was a felony.

Old Miss is not winning this game. Their offense will take a step back
and their defense shouldn?t be much better either. They lost what 4 receivers
to NFL?
Saw today where 2 of their O-lineman (with one being their best returning
starter) will NOT play in the Bluff City.
