Was this gimmick for the 2019 recruiting class or this year's 2020 class? Thus far for 2020 commits, State has 15 from MS and UM only nine, per 24/7.

Im just honestly not sure what they have to hang onto at this point. State absolutely dominated just about everything you can dominate in this State in 2018. And that has happened more years than not since Sherril came and we got out of the 1950s mindset in our athletic dept

Basically they are making fun of us for not winning National Titles. Which is hilarious since they've never sniffed one in any sport since the 60's.

They have no identity. They change as often as the wind. They see something work for someone else and try to make it their own. It’s funny and sad. Not an original idea out of that place in decades.

Yeah none of them were alive the last time they even had a realistic shot at playing for a natty in any sport. I cant ever remember them ever even making it to a semi in omaha or the big dance, or a football game to put them in position to play for it. Maybe the Arkansas 4th down miracle game or Eli getting his foot stepped on but they lost both so no real argument there

Ole Miss = Come play for us. We'll give you enough money to buy all the drugs you need.

Do you count the ones they have?

Well, the AP or Coach's poll have never ranked UM #1 at any point so not sure they have "won" a National Title. I will give them credit for 59, 60, and 62. One of those years should be a National Title.

Which one? No way they beat integrated football teams in any of those years.

One of those years was an undefeated season out of the SEC but Auburn doesn't have one for Tommy Tuberville's year either so unless Auburn claims one somehow then UM doesn't have a leg to stand on.

The 62 team is the only one that went unbeaten and untied and they finished 3 in both major polls.

This is probably not going to line up right, but here goes.....

Season Selectors Record Final AP Final Coaches
1959 Berryman, Dunkel, Sagarin 10-1 #2 #2
1960 Billingsley, Football Writers, DeVold, Dunkel, 10-0-1 #2 #3
Football Research, NCF, Williamson
1962 Billingsley, Litkenhous, Sagarin 10-0 #3 #3

The major wire service polls of the time (Associated Press & United Press), named Syracuse the National Champion in 1959, Minnesota in 1960, and USC in 1962.

Syracuse in 1959 and USC in 1962 would've steamrolled them. Minnesota in 1960 probably beaten them.

As a matter of fact, in 1962 Ole Miss was not only not the best team in the country, but probably not the best team in the State of Mississippi- Jackson State had a powerhouse in 1962 led by Willie Richardson was 10-1, 6-1 in the Conference. They only lost to Southern that year 19-14.

Mississippi has never won a NC

The AP nor the UPI (coaches poll) never awarded them the #1 spot. Just because Better Homes and Gardens awarded them a title doesnt make it so. Sixpackspeak awarded State the NC for 1941. Its the same thing

Officially- both schools have never won a NC.

Found the answer to my own thread. MississippiMade was UM's theme for their 2019 recruiting class. This year the theme is #SHARKSEA20N. Marketing update, I guess. Next year RebBearShark21. Stay Tuned. Hail State!

I am sooooo-o-o-o glad out marketing isn't this atrocious. We've actually had some strong campaigns over the past decade what with all the billboards, the #hailstate brand taking off, etc.

I don?t believe they really have Sagarin titles. Long after other teams started claiming Sagarin titles (Kentucky), OM just started claiming those recently. You know Sagarin didn?t just come up with a NEW list of retroactive championships.

P.S. I can?t find a list of Sagarin championships anywhere that?s separate from the NC lists that show the others like Litkenhous.

People have gone back and used a number of the modern statistical ranking systems to re-rank teams. Sagarin is one method that has been used. It wasn't done by Sagarin himself, which why it's not on any "offical" Sagarin list.
