Over the past 3 decades, Ole Miss has made commendable progress is distancing the university from the ghosts of the past. The question the next chancellor must answer is, what is it about the university that attracts blatantly racist students to enroll at Ole Miss? It is my opinion that racist students such as these are a very small minority in the overall student body, but there is something in the culture ( or sub-culture) that is just sick. Perhaps the fraternity system is at least partly to blame?
The next chancellor is going to have to take this on and do whatever it takes to solve this problem. The problem is real.

There's not much more they can realistically do. They will eventually pull any and all vestiges of the old south in due time. Evenso, I'm not sure it'll help too much.

You can find students like this at any university in the south and even across the nation but the culture of that campus makes students think it's ok for them to act on their stupidity.
When you read or hear discussions of what their alumni are looking for in a new chancellor it's not surprising at all to read an article like this.
