2016 3,360 passing yds 25/5 tds/int 140/352/6 attempts yards tds rushing. Trace was a soph and this was Joe's 1st year as OC. Won the big 10. Saquon was also a soph and was 247/1302/16.

2017 3570 passing yds 28/10 tds/int 144/491/11 attempts yards tds rushing. Trace was a jr and this was Joe's 2nd year as OC. Saquon was also a jr and was 217/1271/18 tds.

2018 2530 passing yds 18/7 tds/int 170/798/12 attempts yards tds rushing. Trace was a sr and this was Joe's 1st year @ MSU Sanders was the rb and was 220/1274/9 tds.

I'm not sure if McSorley was injured in 2018, but his numbers fell off. I know that Barkley went pro after 2017, but believe the next rb still had a great year. Just kind of shocked that how bad his passing dropped after Moorhead left. You can tell he had many more carries in 2018 but the rushing production wasn't too great and didn't make up for the passing. I do know that under Franklin prior 2 years PSU was awful offensively despite having hackenberg who was a 5*. Have to give credit to Joe there.

For comparison,
In 2018, Fitz was 1,615 passing 15/7 & then 201/1018/12 rushing
In 2017, Fitz was 1,782 passing 15/11 & then 162/984/14 rushing

Have to think that 2018 was the final year of the run centric qb @ MSU. Don't get me wrong, it was good for the last decade to get us consistent, relevant, but time for next step.

I'm so looking forward to a having a QB that can consistently minimum pass for 2500/20/8 and go through 2-3 reads every play. probably another 400/6 rushing. We do that, we have a chance @ consistently winning 9 games with a few of those wins being in shootouts. Basically, means you will be in any game which is good for fans wanting to go to games. I'm most relieved about going away from a running qb. Those extra ~50 rushes that our QB does kills an offense, gets out of rhythm. I didn't realize this, but of the 14 sec teams last year, UK/MSU/UT/ARK all qbs had less than 2,000 yds passing which is terrible. 10/14 SEC qbs at least passed for 2,400 yds.

In 2014, Dak was 3449/27/11 good for 4th of 14. In 2015, Dak was 3,793/29/5 good for 3rd in SEC. So, it can be done here. As nice as Dak being 3rd or 4th was those 2 years, we really only need to be top half.

for this year, I do think either Tommy or Key will get us to middle of the pack SEC stats with 2500/20/8 with another 400/6 rushing. Just being a bare minimum is going to do wonders for the trajectory of our program, distribute to our playmakers, encourage our D.

Finally, it's time to release the WHOP. He needs to start game 1. He is our most ready made SEC WR. catch in traffic, great hands, physical. If he can be 40+ catches going into last third of season, we can finish strong both on the field and crootin.

McSorley lost the most talented rb in the game in 2017 draft, who caught 54 balls his junior year. Penn st also lost gesicki (2nd round), who caught 57 balls and 9 TDs. Penn state also lost Hamilton (4th round), who caught 53 balls and 9 TDs. Juwan Johnson went from 54 catches in 2017 to 25 in 2018. I'm not saying losing Moorhead didn't hurt, but I think those 3 players above were a much bigger blow.

certainly, Saquon hurt, but the other RB did well last year. I wonder if the 2018 WRs had many drops, etc. Just a ton less completions in 2018 than 2017 so that's more scheme and WR dropoff to me.

I don't understand what this has to do with us.

What are we trying to do here? Mcsorley had a better supporting cast on offense than Fitz. Also, Fitz didn't always throw the best passes for the receivers (not saying the receivers didn't make their fair share of drops). Barkley had 1,300 yards rushing for the Giants last year and DaeSean Hamilton will be the #2 guy behind Emmanuel Sanders. Apples to Oranges in comparing offenses here. Mcsorley had better talent around him when comparing offenses.

I think the OP was trying to say Penn State fell off after Moorhead left, which is true. But mstate7 is saying it had more to do with the talent that left than Moorhead which is also true.

Kind of like if we had a new defensive coordinator this year and people saying we fell off after Shoop left, lol.
